Methadone Withdrawl

My boyfriend is 21 years old and he used oxycotin for about a year and a half....he did at least 7 80's a day....He  then deceided to go to the methadone clinic and he was up to 120mg..he relapsed and he pissed dirty and they kicked him out of the clinic...he knew he missed up so he transfered to the Indiana Clinic and from there he was stable on 80mg for about 2 months.  He couldnt afford to drive up there every day, so he decided to quit cold turkey.....Hes on his 4th day today and hanst been throwing up, or had the runs. He says hes been sweating and describes to me that all his bones ache and constatly feels like hes fieining for a cigerate and has headaches.  How long will it take until the worst part comes? And do you think he can do it cold turkey??? He hasnt eaten much and cant sleep hardly at night.......PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi Heather, I am sorry your boyfriend has to go through this..but he can do it..It will take a little while to feel better. I went cold off 65mg..I was very very sick for at least 3 weeks and then it was another 6 weeks until I felt human again..Make sure he is drinking alot of water. he really doesn't need to worry about food right now..just water or fluids of somekind..tell him to NOT try and drink any alcohol..this will not help and infact tends to make the w/ds worse. This is going to be very hard but it can be done. I have some info that you might want to read in my journals about methadone and w/d. It has some helpful info and things he can do to try and alleviate some of the symptoms. It will help if you understand how methadone works. i would say he is going to feel worse before he feels better. Methadone has a long 1/2 life so he shou;d be really feeling the full w/ds in the next 2 days..please feel free to pm me if you have any questions..i will do my best to help answer them..just tell your b/f to hand in there..he will then be free of this..

That's a huge jump.  It is possible but remember that the withdrawl process is magnified and multiplied in terms of length for methadone.  So think of it as probably around 2-4  weeks before it gets better.  good luck and keep posting
