HI well your b/f is doing a taper that is doable but very fast ..you should allow 3 days between drops in dose..methadone has a long 1/2 life and your not going to feel the drop in dose the day you do it rather you will feel it on day 2...hes not giving his body any time to adjust to the lower dose thats why he is feeling so badly ....if you slow the taper down some it should be a bit more bearable the rule of thumb to go by is ....let your body be the judge of when to drop your dose but 72hr is considered fast for methadone most clinics will only let you drop 3ml a week not a day?? never know though its different at every clinic
as for the depression it comes with tapering it all part of the withdrawal but it is safe to mix antidepressants with methadone...I was on them both for 6 1/2 yrs and it helped with the depression ...your b/f really need to get involved with some sort of aftercare
N/A is good and the clinic should have free cosoling you need to be hooked up with something when trying to get off the methadone...it only puts your addiction on hold it dosent cure the addiction you need to treat the addiction wile on the methadone so you come out with a good foundation b/4 going off.....good luck and God bless.....Gnarly
coming down from methadone too fast always makes me very depressed. I have taken pristiq and it helped alot. i took it for just a few weeks and stopped cause i am fine now. suicide talk should not be ignored. He should tell his doctor that he is really depressed. Also depression can be hereditary. If his brother had it, then there's a chance your boyfriend does too.
