Methodone

Does anyone know anything about Methodone, I went to my doctor today and told him I flushed the rest of my vicodin and he told me to try methodone to get over all of the pain I am in I told him no, because I was scared about all of the stuff you hear on TV, but after getting home and not being able to move I am thinking about calling him back and telling him I changed my mind?

Methodone is a long acting pain medication for acute and chronic pain that is moderate to severe. I take it and it works all day for me. I use to take vicodin but didn't like the fact that I had to take it throughout the day. It wore off after only a few hours of pain relief. But methodone relieve my pain the entire day through. I recommend it to anyone who suffers from chronic pain that can get pretty severe at times, like mine. Hope this helps.

I want the methadone to help with the withdrawals from vicodin. Is it going to hurt me or help me?

Hi I think you made the right decision by saying no. Methadone is the hardest drug to come off of. If your only on vics why would your doc step you up to methadone?

it all depends on yr intentions.do u wanna use it short term to dtox,long term indefinate maintanence,or finally as a supplement to continued illicit use.ive been on mdone for many yrs so mayb i can help.

Were you taking vicoden for pain purposes?  Methadone is trading one addiction for another and is very hard to get off of versus other meds.  my g/f who suffers from chronic pain is on 320 mgs of methadone per day along with 7 norcos per day.  she said it doesnt help with her pain that much.  It would definately help you get thru withdrawals of the vicoden but then you would be addicted to methadone.  Just my experience.

if u only intend 2 use it short term(4-6weeks) 2 dtox its no harder to come off than ne other opiate.dtoxing after long term maintanence is a different beast altogether and is wicked.as a supplement to illicit use isnt such a great idea either.in Holland their heroin programs insist that clients b on at least 60mg of mdone as well.they hate it cos they just dnt feel nething.and this is pharmaceutical grade hammer.go figure.

it will definately help with wds and cravings.it has a long half life so once daily dosing is adequate 4 most people but sum with faster metabolism need 2 doses.mdone has as many pros as cons.there is a lot of misinformation regarding mdone.mdone as a licit stabalising narcotic can be extremely beneficial for sum people.i realise these views may b controversial on this forum but i just want to provide a little balance since most folks here are so anti.

Hey, I for one am glad that there are people saying that methadone can be a good thing for some people. That's one of the reasons to have this forum - to give opinions and generate discussion around issues related to addiction recovery.

Igot strung out on methadone.it was horrible.of course i was on high doses to get a high that really never comes for me.just a relaxed feeling.some docs give it for w/d's.but be careful not to trade one addiction for another.let us know how you are doing.RT
