My bf is an ex heroin user and we want a baby

by bilbosgirl, Oct 25, 2009 04:24PM
My bf has been clean a year now and we want to start a family. What, if any, effects will his old addiction have on trying to get pregnant, or our future baby?

There should be absolutely no problem.  One of the few effects that heroin does have would be to lower the sex drive in the user. Debatable whether sperm levels decrease......but that is during active addiction. After a year you are good to go - - and good luck  - - - but also keep in mind just how easily a person can slip back to that old lifestyle - -

Hi, thanks for your reply.  There's no way he'll go back, he's cut everything off and he knows if he so much as smokes a spliff or something that's the end.  I have two kids of my own and won't have that.  He's moved half way across the country, away from his old friends and has started a new life completely separate to his old one.  He's been very honest with me and is an open book, I'll know if something is up lol.  He told me he wasn't interested in sex at all when he was on, but his sex drive now is certainly not low which is good lol.

Thanks again for your reply, it's really good to know things should be ok for us. :D
