My medications

Hello, I am new to this community & found it because I was prescribed a new medication by my dr. & was looking it up. I have headaches-but they are called "tension migraines." Anyone heard of these?  The meds I take are Prisatiq (for depression) Klonopin (for anxiety-but my dr. swears this will "relax" my muscles too), Norco & he just added Stadol NS. I just don't see how any of these will help the muscle tension/spasms I have in m y back & neck that end up in very painful headaches. Any help?

Hi and welcome - I'd like to reiterate what Sandy said, PT does help as does massage therapy for me.  You can google "Migraine Physical Therapy" and will find youtube videos that show you exercises to do, I tend to move in clusters with my headaches but I have many less now than I did.  I have a really good massage therapist who is also going to school for PT, she does TMJ massage for me and it is so helpful to my headaches.  Finding a way to learn to relax those muscles will be key for you - I also do yoga which has helped so much.  I have found a lot of helpful pressure points, cold water techniques from searching on youtube under "Migraine relief" there are endless chriros and PTs that offer solutions.  Best of luck.

Hi and Welcome to the forum!

Tension headaches are rough.  They snuck up on me, getting a worse over time, until they became unbearable.  My doctor recommended physical therapy and it made all the difference in the world.  My problem was that the tension in the small muscles of the neck and head, the massiter muscles, suboccipitals, etc., became so tight that, not only did I have pain in my upper back and neck, but I also had these pounding headaches.  The first 6 or 7 discs of my vertabre were out of alignment as well.

Over several months Iwe did traction, (which helped aLOT), and my PT would massage the small muscles that were causing such major pain.  We did different types exercises, specifically to loosen and relax these muscles.

It took some work, but not too much time before the headaches slowly subsided, along with the pain in my neck and and upper back.

Something for you to consider, and no matter what I hope you get those migraines under control.  They will ruin your day.

Well wishes to you....

Sandy :)
