I agree with everyone. Try try try a different meeting. I went to one I felt uncomfortable with too and I'm a dude. I just turned around and came home. But now I found some great ones and na really does work!
Lulu~!
I love the analogy - hope you don't mind if I use it!! :)
so sorry it was a bust M. You'll figure it out. You are an inspiration!!
Thanks soooo much! I will keep trying. Going to try the A/A route and see how it goes. I won't give up! Appreciate all your advice and support!
You might also want to try AA around your area. If you keep looking you'll find the right meetings for you. Above all, never give up. Like Gnarly, nothing but meetings has ever worked for me also.
Yikes. I had a similar experience. It scared the crap out of me. I got involved in a smart recovery program at a women's centre and it evolved over time into a project that I ran for women who were addicts and abuse survivors. I'm sorry this happened to you- but don't give up on support meetings. Just try out a few until you find one that fits. To use my fave analogy- sometimes you gotta try on a few pairs of shoes before you find the right match for that perfect dress. The perfect dress being the new you.
Don't give up...
Lu
Hi there~
Hey I'm so sorry that was your experience... ugh... yeah, unfortunately, that CAN be the situation with NA. When I was first starting meetings... I went to a couple of different NA meetings... my experience was different than your but for me - I just didn't feel 'safe' - sobriety wise. Of course, that's NO good. SO - I went to AA. AA saved my butt.
Therapy is great - it is. I highly recommend it as well... but there is nothing like being around other addicts (alcoholics or also addicts just different substance I don't care anyone else says - it's a thinking problem) to help you - US - and teach us how to live life clean and sober. I just want to encourage you to check out AA. Most will welcome addicts - my experience.
Keep at it. Keep choosing YOU girl!
Hi im so sorry the meeting was like that most are not give it the old college try and go to 3 meetings b/4 you make up your mind I tried shrinks and substance abuse counselors but it wasent till I got to N/A that my life turned around ..Gnarly
yea just a bit turned off at the moment! My best friend came with me for support. She was mortified too! We went an had a decaf coffee and had some laughs so I felt better!! I am on my journey and will find what works for me!! Hope you guys are having a good night and thank you!
sorry you had to put up with that .have you been online and searched your area most cities of size have numerous meetings. keep the faith. peace out!!
BTW....I wanted to mention, put your "armour" on at first, until u meet people your comfortable. I know many women ( and men) that have been taken advantage of b/c of their vulnerability.
I will keep searching then but what I saw tonight was a **** show! I was actually terrified!
don,t get discouraged because that's not the norm at most meetings. is that the only one in town? listen aa/na have the same principals when it comes to addiction. please don,t give up on the meetings I,m sure you will find one.is there a treatment center close to you they also have open meetings at least the one I was in a while back did. I get the same out of a aa meeting as I do an na meeting just keep your addictipn in mind. remember alcohol is also a drug. wish you the best. peace out!!!!!!!!!!!robert
