NEED ADVICE Have Bronchitis Dr. Gave Me Cough Medicine With Codeine

Hi All - I am 32 days clean and I have bronchitis.  I haven't been sleeping for the past two nights.  I have been up at night coughing non-stop.  I just got back from the dr and he gave me cough syrup with codeine (very mild) so that i can sleep at night along with z-pac.  When I have had this in the past, I only used the cough medicine for about two nights.  I haven't gotten the script filled yet.  Do you think it will be ok to use this if I only take as directed?  I haven't had a lot of cravings lately.  Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing benedrly is not recommended with codine, but try a cortisone cream, will help with typical itches. I used alot when the dumb dogs brought fleas to the house, lol!

I can imagine the anxiety, but just be careful and posting. That is scary! But I hope it helps. Proper sleep is necessary for recovery.

Anne, that is one of the side effects of codeine cough syrup.  Is it minor or severe??  If minor..should be ok, but otherwise..may want to stop.

thanks - I started coughing this afternoon and I took one teaspoon and my face started itching like crazy.  I have no idea why.

Anne, get well.  I have never had a problem with cough syrup!  You need it to sleep and get well.  Use it two days or so and then get rid of it.

I've taken cough medicine with codeine and it doesn't give me the safe effect as the pills. Personally, I don't think I'd crave the pills after using cough syrup as directed. It makes me sleepy. Good Luck!
