partner addicted to heroin.

i posted a question a few days ago about my partner using heroin. He does want to get of it wished he,d never have started taking it in the first place.I have a brother who has been an addict since he was 18 he,s now 36,been in and out of prison through it.Has come out clean 6months down the road he,s back on it.I know all the signs, what to look for.He distroyed the family robbed us blind, but there is one thing ive never done and thats turn my back on him, also he was injecting,in prison again now. I know that my boyfriend is not at the worst stage yet,he,s not had any since saturday morning, struggled a bit last night in bed, very figgity. But stuck it out. He knows if he carrys on im not going to put up with it i cant i have children to think about. But im doing my best to stay with him as i love him alot, and know he can kick this habit. But my question was should he make the appointment at the docs first.? My view is you can get clean but dont stay clean forever. Am i wrong by saying that.

Hi and welcome back.. Send a congratulations to your bf on his 3rd day.. that's great that he made it through last night with only the fidgets.. he's getting off lightly.. Hot showers or baths as this will help him to feel more comfortable in the next few days.... as an ex Heroin addict because craving do last so long and we know where to find the stuff easily.. we usually move from the town we have used in.. If this is a impossibility.. he should check out na or aa making meetings really does help to stay clean.. we need to be involved in our recovery.. myself I sought therapy.. what ever works best for him.. but support helps so very much.. You will receive more feed back as recovery care is key.. I wish you both well.. lesa

I used to shoot anything that would disolve, coke heroin and meth. Sometimes all in one blast. It has been over 12 years since I did any of that and I still have dreams of having dope, needle and no spoon. Other times I have dreams that I suceed in shooting up and I wake up in cold sweats. I was a needle junkie for 5 years. It is a mental challenge as much as a physical. I would say more mental. I ended up in prison and looked around at the people I had put myself with. Rapist, thieves, murders, etc. and knew I was not that person. Your partner needs to come to that reality. He needs to hit bottom were it cant get worse in his world before he can change. He sound like someone worth keeping but dont enable him or put up with his ****! But be careful how you tell him you cant take it. especially if he is in WD. Good luck.

if u really want to stay clean you can stay clean forever. it is all about how much do u want it. heroin is a powerful drug, one that should require rehab to get off of, maybe you should tell him to get into rehab, quitting is not the real challenge, staying clean is, and the teach u that in rehab, heroin cravings can hang around for years making it difficult to stay away from, if he can't stay clean, run for the hills and take your kids, good luck and god bless
