Neurontin/Gabapentin for WD/RLS?

I have heard/read that Neurontin/Gabapentin has really helped ease the WD for a lot of people, and has also been prescribed to help restless leg syndrome. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

Thank you and God Bless!

Angie,

I've also heard that gabapentin can help with withdrawals, and a number of doctors prescribe it for that reason at the hospital I work at. However, where I live, there is an extremely high propensity for gabapentin abuse. The kids call them 'johnnies' and take them in handfuls while drinking Red Bull. They categorize the high similarly to cocaine. Being that there is a chance of abuse, I would stay away from the drug and find an alternative. That being said, there is a chance of abuse with any prescription drug, and if the medication is working well for you and you haven't found yourself abusing it, then have at it!

Try it for that first misserable week off pills.  !00MG IS WHAT I HAD ALSO, BUT HE SCRIBED (opps caps) me to take 6 a day.  I'd try just one around an hour before you go to sleep, suffer through the daytime on the rest of thomas recipe and hydo-fools plan.

That's what I was taking. I guess just try it and see how you do. You will probably be fine with it. I am a weirdo and have allergies and reactions to all kinds of thing!

I had read that a few people said it made them feel "strung out", and others said it made them feel tired. I don't mind if it makes me tired, but i don't want to feel strung out or weird. I guess it could also depend on the dose. The ones i have are 100mg each

That's the reason i barely used it.  My wife could tell that it helped me during bedtime, but it made me feel strange, my dr told me i'd get past that if i stayed on it, to me that was a flag to avoid it as much as possible.  Unfortunantly at 8 months, i still have to pack up and move to the couch around 3:00AM a couple nights a week, we call my rls, "peddling the bicycle" but i can get it in any muscle even stomach muscle will jerk.

I think if you were on heroin or subs it would be worth using, my thought was, 'i'm not going to use pills to get off pills'.

Thank you for the replies. I have some, but i have never even tried it before. I truly hope it will at least help with RLS because that is my number one issue with WD.

Ariley-yes girl, i am! Finally pretty much recovered from the surgeries. I was going to jump off last week, but thought about trying to taper at least some, but i just couldn't do it sadly. I am completely out of meds, and just took my last one, so i am going CT.

Hey girl! I didn't take the Neurontin for wds, but I did take it for a short time for nerve pain and RLS caused by my back. It did help with that stuff quite a bit. Unfortunately I was having a bad reaction to it and felt all shaky and had a racing heart, so I had to stop taking it. Are you getting ready to jump off of the pain pills my friend?

Yes several of us who have gone to a dr. for help quitting opiates have been scribed gabapentin.  I barely used mine on the worst days, way less than the prescribed dosage.   I still had major issues, so wait for more input on here about its effect rls and pain or cravings.
