Never would have thought

I've been on here for years and I want to share something that I have found that helped me in my day to day recovery. As many of us know when you stop using drugs (pain pills was my DOC) the days at first are soo long. Boredom is a very dangerous thing in early recovery. Due to my use I lost my drivers license. I started using public transportation for all my travel. Wow I never thought that it would be so helpful. I start my day at 5:30 at the bus stop. 2 hours to get to work and 2 1/2 hours home every day. I don't walk through the door each night until 7:00. It has added structure and made each day constant.  I know that I can't just get in my car and end up at a dealers house. I have to plan ahead and be ready to go at the same time every day. It makes me get up early and go to bed actually tired each night. With this schedule I don't have much time to myself so I don't give myself time to be bored and start thinking about using. It also helps to not having to pay the day to day cost of having a car gas insurance ect. I always thought of public transportation as something I would never do. I have my license back now but I feel much safer continuing to ride the bus everyday   Give it a try for a week or so. It really is a good thing

Wow, Tom, I have the same story as you but I lament having to take the bus. You gave me a different perspective on how to be grateful about it. Yes, bussing it def can keep us out of trouble. I gotta remember that. Thank you!!!!

Instead of riding to work alone each day I get to commute with about 200 people. It's an adventure every day. There are really cool people out there. I just had to stop hiding behind the pills to find them
