Thanks for your insight and help. I guess in time my brain will stop craving.
Everytime i say anything in a forum about my choice to use methadone, i get the same answers lol. Yes i was aware before i started about how addictive it is and how hard it is to get off. BUT to me, at this point in my life it is the answer for me. Even if it just "buys me time" in life thats fine. trading in an addiction that caused me to be a crappy wife, a horrible mother..put me in tremendous debt...caused me to lose 3 jobs...lose friends...lost respect of many ppl....also used so much of my time to "seek and score" and caused me so much anxiety counting pills and stressing about where to get more...where i was gonna sneak the money from or borrow from...METHADONE is FREE. its once per day, I can enjoy my kids while they are still young...i can pay off all my bills and debts before i go beyond bankrupt...know what i mean?? I have take this too far, I have tried very hard to taper down...multiple attempts to cold turkey with and without the aid of clonidine and benzos...i have seen addiction cousellors...etc etc,
AND.......Suboxone is not an option in Ontario. If someone says it is, i dont know where they are getting their info...I extensively researched this, with the help of my family doc...psychiatrist and addiction counseller. This medication is not yet approved to prescribe in Ontario, Canada
Like i said thanks for your support guys, i appreciate it..hopefully it will get better from here!

I was on Methadone for 4-5 months for pain, and it was absolutely HORRIBLE to get off of. My doctor stopped seeing me as a patient and wouldn't prescribe anymore, so I had to try to wean myself off alone, with like only 14 pills left (10mg), it was rough even after weaning. But, I did do it, it was just a very terrible time. I wish my doctor would never have tried me on it. If you don't need it, I would not take it, or take the lowest possible dose. Good Luck!
Your dose isn't high enough at the moment. I don't recommend you going on methadone maintenance it is harder to get off than heroin. You'll feel like s*** every morning before your dose, no matter what dosage you're on.
You should go for Subutex (buprenorphine), it's administered under your tongue, you let it dissolve there and once you're stabilised you can skip one or two days of dosing because it has a longer life span than methadone.
People I've spoken to who've jumped from methadone to subutex have all said how much better it is and they don't feel like s*** in the morning and they aren't lethargic like they were on methadone. Also, it is much easier weaning off than methadone, you can drop your dose faster with fewer withdrawal symptoms.
Another side effect of methadone maintenance is you will loose your teeth! Firstly they'll start to decay at the gum line, so you need to stay on top of your dental needs. Get fillings as soon as needed or you'll loose your back teeth followed by your front. Even if you brush regularly and floss you will still have problems with your teeth. I was once told by a dentist that it's because we are missing an enzyme in our saliva? Who knows exactly why but we all know that methadone users loose their teeth!
may i ask why you chose to go on methadone...i'ts so hard to get off.... i don't really know much about oxy....but good luck hun...dee
Can you go on sub.? If not try to keep you're dose of methadone as low as possible it's highly addictive people say more than heroine...The cravings must be mental no? If you're not having physical w/d just be happy that you're not living in he ll and going through that horrible feeling and try to get to some meetings to help with the cravings.
Hi Hun!
I am sorry, it has been 19 years since I took Meth, and I don't remember much about it..except that it tasted GOD awful. I didn't complete the program when I was on it, so I can't help you with personal experience.
From everything I have read, they will begin increasing your dose to get you to your comfort level, and then begin weening you down. You are just going to have to wait till they get you comfortable. Isn't it a holiday there? When do you go back?
