I need help asap

I am in full time school, been on methadone for 7 years and I feel trapped.  I feel no way out of this due to the horrible withdrawal.  Rapid detox doesnt seem appealing and I would like to get more info on countries that allow short acting opiates to replace md so that I can use them for a few months then kick it like ive done with heroin and the like many times.  Any info would be greatly appreciated my life feels like it is over....

Hey Wes! Welcome & thanks for reaching out. Can you tell us if you're under a Dr's care or on a clinic? The thing is, the best way to come off Methadone is a slow taper. (I was on Methadone for 20 yrs.)

To tell you the truth, I can't imagine any Dr. prescribing other opiates to you at this point unless you have a serious pain/medical issue. This just isn't happening these days in the US (unless you find a 'croaker' [corrupt Dr.]  Naturally, with this, you run the risk of him/her being flagged and shut down & then where are you? [you will also be flagged as a result of being his/her patient.]) I don't know about other countries regs except to say that they wouldn't prescribe for you in the UK, Australia or New Zealand (except to offer you Methadone/Subs.) I know that you can get anything you want in a pharmacy in certain S American countries. Though I'm sure you could switch over to another opiate off the street, that would defeat the whole reason you went onto M in the first place.

With respect, my friend, what I think you're not addressing here is what's happening with you. You are an addict. As you said, you've kicked many times before. What's going to make this time any different? I'm going to cut & paste from a friend's excellent reply from another thread running on this forum at present. This is a famous analogy, btw.:

Chapter 1:

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost...I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter 2: I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I cant believe I am in this same place, but it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter 3:
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it there.
I fall in...its a habit...but my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It IS my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter 4:
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

Chapter 5:

I walk down a different street.

----------------------------------------------------

Kinda' says it all, eh?

If you want to make this one stick, the first step is total Honesty w/ yourself! Even if you kick again, I guarantee that you'll find yourself back on some form of opiate sooner rather than later. We're never guaranteed a next time -- a next attempt at kicking. I've lost a lot of friends..You have to take a look at why you're using in the first place. The vast majority of addicts use for emotional reasons. What you've been doing - (what we've been doing) - has actually changed our neural chemistry. You have to look at what triggers your use & how you deal with stress, anger, boredom, restlessness & sadness. Are you sure that you can sit in your own skin without any opiates for the rest of your life? How many people do you know who've kicked & never gone back ( I'm talking about real time, here) without changing everything about their approach to the issue?

So, Wes, I'd love to hear your thoughts on all this. I know you feel like your stuck but you've got options which we can discuss. It would be a shame to get your degree on opiates & eventually mess up your job/life because of the downwards spiral that addiction inevitably sends us on. (You, yourself, have experienced this spiral over and over.)

You've come to the right place! MH is an absolutely amazing recovery tool if you take advantage of it. It's helped many, many struggling people just like you. I'd suggest you lurk around the forum & individual pages. Read the threads, journals & statuses. I think you might find some familiar ground with other posters and it might help bring you to a place of greater clarity. We're here for you!

Hello Wes and welcome. You can get off with a long, slow taper. So you get it from a clinic? What dose Are you on now?
