I'm sorry if I gave you outdated information. Here is a better link. You have to post a thread there asking the same question.

The general idea is to have a sponsor that you can interact with in person but its YOUR recovery and YOU can decide whats best. Being the situation your in it seems like you have three choices:
1) Get a male sponsor
2) Get an online FEMALE sponsor
3) Don't get a sponsor at all
IMO I think it best serves to have a same sex sponsor which would then point you towards option 2. Build your support group at the meeting...have numbers etc to call if you get in a jam, but you can still deal with an online sponsor. There's no LAW that say you cant. Create your OWN recovery that bests suit your situation. I'm sure you will be more comfortable talking about things and working through steps with someone of the same sex. IMO I have Skype and talk to my brother in TN from CA for free. You can sit with your sponsor online. If there's a will....there's a way.

Good luck
I go to AA meetings because we don't have NA meeting in the town I live in. The AA meeting I go to are the only meetings in my town and the closest meeting outside my town is almost a hour away. Trust me I have tried to get a sponsor anyway I can but it has been impossible. That why my last resort is to find someone online at least termporarly. Thanks for your help.
A sponsor should always be a live person whom you are attending meetings with. I would never suggest someone get an online sponsor. It is imperative that the person gets to know you and sees you interact, etc. Try to get to other meetings. If you are only doing NA, then try AA. Doing the steps alone would be impossible. You need someone who has worked the steps themselves and can guide you and explain them to you. Keep looking..you will find the right meetings.
