How should I approach taking suboxone?

So the good with the bad, i posted a few days ago about my habits with oxys but heres a quick summary.. was taking about 3-6 a day for a 3-5 months and i was battling through WDs and it wasnt going to bad however, on my 3rd day ii woke up feeling great but by the afternoon EVERYTHING changed.... had a mental breakdown and i was just really mad at myself and felt really depressed, couldnt believe i put myself in this situation and couldnt believe what it had come to, anyway went to the doctor later in the day, who i had visited the previous day as well but came away with nothing the first time but the doc pleaded that i come back the following day, anyway the doc prescribed me 2mg subs, colindine, and gabapentin.

The subs do work wonders, and have made me feel a lot better and have totally rid me of my runs (which became absolutely unbearable) and my cravings, to be honest i think that if i didnt get the subs i would have definitely relapsed yesterday, actually i know i would have, so maybe it was something i needed, having said that (lol Seinfeld) I am very cautious about taking the subs, i take them exactly as ordered, and its only my 2nd day taking them and i want to try to cut it from 3 to 2 tomorrow, if there is one good thing i know most people start off at 8mg, somtimes as much as 3 times a day, so 2mg 3 times a day hopefully wont be as damaging, does anyone have any advice on how to feel the best but at the same time get off these subs ASAP? the last thing i need is another addiction to kick

also on a side note, i realize that the subs make me feel good, but not 100% a sober feel good, i can still feel a little buzz and i am honestly worried that the buzz is what im going to be craving once im done with the subs.... please help!

Subs were harder for me to get off than any pull I took.

I think i know what you mean when you say you get a lift of the subs. Thats why i am suggesting that one 2mg per day would be enough for you. Subs have a long half life, like Methadone. In other words, they stay in your system, and work for more than 24 hours, thats why you only need to take them once a day. Apparently they dont have a cumulative effect. So if the initial dose stops your withdrawal symptoms taking more on top achieves nothing! If i was you i would ask your doctor to do a taper lasting no more than 3 weeks. That way you should be able to avoid getting addicted to the Subs, and the pills you were taking will be well out of you system by then. Have you given any thought to relapse prevention for when your withdrawal is over? For a lot of addicts the hardest thing is staying off, rather than getting off. Stay strong, Blue

Whatever you do, just taper to below 2mg before you make the jump.  I jumped off at 2 mg after 16 months of use.  Started out at 8mg 2x daily.  2mg was pure hell to quit after that long.

They really did help me though... Just gotta be super strong when you're not taking anything at all!  I know you can do it!  Best of luck!! :-)

Today I am going to try to cut it to 1.5 pills, and i would like to clarify I dont really feel "high" like its not anything like when i use to blow roxys, but i definitely get a boost of energy, and may sound weird but the way i know is because when i smoke a cigarette it feels more similar to when im on blues as compared to being sober, it may be clonidine because I read that that treats ADHD and it does kind of feel like I am on adderal, Im going to only take the sub today and not the clonidine and post what happens

Thanks for the support!

Don't know why your dr has told you to take 3 times daily? From my experience, you only need to take Subs once a day. Subs are a lot stronger than most other opiates and they ARE VERY addictive. If taking 2mg is stopping your withdrawal symptoms then you should be able to taper down from there without much trouble. I wouldn't advise staying on Subs long term if you don't want to swap one addiction for another!!

It is because we are addicts, and the Subs help us stop Opiates.

They help with cravings, and pain.  Sorry I didn't explain it well enough.

Hugs,
Anna

I want recovery.  I've nearly lost my life and destroyed my sweet family.

Why take the pills if theres no high? That seems kind of counter productive.

Suboxone is a medication taken to help people that want to be off of opiate pain medicine.  It fills the pain receptors, but is suppose to not allow any high to happen.  I am on suboxone (Or subs) after getting off a very strong Opiate, Opana.  No problem asking.

I get zero opiate high from Subs. Maybe I'm just used to the intense high of IV heroin but I am pretty sure it's not that. I hardly even feel normal on them it just helps me.with cravings and makes me feel safe I won't use more heroin. It all depends on your dose. Id say your on way too much if you feel high. I'm only on 4mg a day and I came off 2-3 grams a day which in terms of oxy id say is around 1000mg or more lol. So u really don't need much sub is very very strong binding to receptors and holds me just fine at 4. Take care

I take 8mg once a day and was started on 16mg once a day. The goal of the suboxone program is to get you through the physical and mental part of it. The 'high' that you're talking about from the suboxone isn't actually a high, its mentally because you are taking a pill and you associate taking pills with being high. That's how it was explained to me anyway. I can feel high off ibuprofin if I try hard enough... I do agree with the above post, the mid-day dose probably isn't needed, sometimes doctors will start you off on a higher dose to build it up in your system and then they will eliminate that extra dose in a week or month.

Good luck with them, they literally saved my life.

I am taking subs--about 2 weeks.  I am bummed that you mention the feel good buzz.  I thought I was just starting to feeling more like myself!  But maybe it is myself on the opiates I was on.  This is a cruel blow, isn;t it.  when we aren't suppose to feel any high!!!!  I am on 4 mg 3 times a day, so your dosing must not be that off.

Blessings,
Marie
