Opiate withdrawals - are these symptoms typical?

Ok here is the deal,  i stopped taking hydrocodone 13 days ago after averaging 120mg or so a day for 6 months, i used kratom to wein myself off of it and was off it for the past 6 days.  I had very little withdrawals the next 2-3 days.  Then i went to thailand 3 days ago.  I had a deep pressure massage, and soon afterwards i developed a headache that became fever chills later that night.  I was sick the next day and soon got over the fever, but now i have stomache pains and diaherria..  I have stomache pain when i eat.  Does this sound like withdrawal symptoms or something else?

I think it is very possible that something you ate didn't agree with you. Although we're all different and go through wd and detox at different rates, it seems that after almost two weeks (great job! :)) you wouldn't be having such extreme stomach problems. I mean, it does take a while for your body to completely get back to normal so you could expect issues like that here and there for quite a while but it just seems to me you have some pretty strong symptoms.  Again, this could be due to your detox. It is really hard to say since this all happened so close after your quitting.

I hope you feel better soon and can get some rest and relief :)

Thanks for your feedback.  Everything feels normal for me today except the stomach pains and constant diarrhea.  Maybe it was something i ate in thailand? Or can releasing the toxins cause this to my intestines?

Hi Gingerbread,

I talked to my Physical Therapist again yesterday about this.  Since massage therapy is a part of my physical therapy and I enjoy it so much, for my birthday my husband gave me a spa day next Thursday that includes a one hour massage. She told me to make sure that I do not get a deep tissue massage because they can cause damage deep in the muscle and make you sore for days. Since it is so intense it can cause headaches too. Apparently a lot of people think that vigorous massage makes the muscles more pliable but instead causes inflammation. She said it is not good for you to be "beaten" during a massage, that a good massage should not cause pain and that you should be so relaxed you feel like Jello afterward. It sounds to me like you very well may be having some side effects from the massage you received. I don't know if your stomach troubles could be caused the massage or not. I do know that if I get a bad headache it makes me nauseous so you could be experiencing that as a side effect.

I hope this helps and maybe someone with a background in massage can give some more information. I also hope you feel better soon!

there was a post about this a day or so ago and someone shared that a deep massage like that might cause this problem.  I hope someone pops in and can share more.
