Overwhelmed

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all of your reply and encouragement, I think that its good that I am here. I really want to quit. but I am so SO overwhelmed at the prospect. One question that I have is that I was taking them recently for my broken foot. When I originally started taking them it was to deal with life, but now I really am suppose to be taking them. Of course I take more then prescribed. My real question is that I am having foot surgery in July and I know that I am going to have to be on something, at least for awhile. I just don't know if I detox starting now, what will happen when I start taking them after surgery??? Any thoughts on what I should do?

So overwhelmed

I,too, have ound that a couple of ibuprophen is all i need for the pain.  the pain was worse when i was on the pain pills.  it doesn't make sence, except that our brains are funny things.  they will tell us anything to get that (or those) stupid pills.  they only mask the pain while, for me anyway, otc stuff helps it much more.  you can do it, Dear.  if i could, anyone can.  this is day 11 totally clean and i am feeling sooooooooo much better.  got 7 1/2 hrs sleep last night. the best in 26 days of wd's.  so i guess i'm finally past most of the physical stuff.  just have to build my strength up now.  vitimins, here i come!!

I haven't read your other post but just from this one, I wanted to add something that I noticed after stopping the meds.  I had 2 surgeries in 2004 and I realized that my pain is actually MUCH less since I have quit pain meds.  I honestly thought that I was unable to stand up straight w/out the pills due to my pain level on most days.  However, much to my excitement, my pain is managable w/ otc meds now.  That is an unimaginable thing for me.

I tell you all of this to say, if you are able to stop now....you will be able to more accurately assess your pain and how to manage it.  The surgery is going to happen anyway, right?  SO.........this will really help you to know what your needs will be once your are healed.  For that and the reasons stated above, i agree that stopping now would be so beneficial to you.  Not that it will be easy or not suck ...b/c it will....but I guess if I learned one thing it is..............it will be MUCH easier today than tomorrow or next week.  Putting off this is only adding to the problem and sadly..THE PAIN.

I want to wish you all the best in whatever you decide, your surgery, and future recovery.  You are making the right steps to get this under control now and wow, that says alot.   Please let me know If I can help in any way. Good luck and please continue to post and keep us current on your progress.

sincerely, tracy

I agree with Fladdict, if you stop taking them now your tolerenc will drop dramatically. So that when you have the surgery the Dr' will be able to treat your pain sufficiently. If your tolerance is too high they won't give you enough pain meds to take care of the pain after your surgery and you will be left sufferring. You will suffer from w/d now, but that will in noway compare to what you will go through if you don't stop and you cant get relief after the surgery, because your tolerance to the meds is to high. Stick it out now and believe me you won't regret it, but if you don't you will have huge regrets.
God Bless

I think it might be good to detox for a while so you won't have such a tolerance after the surgery. If you have a high tolerance they won't work as well when you REALLY need them.

Detox now and then deal with the surgery then.. if you stop taking them now.. anything they give you then will actually work.. have someone help you give you your doses after the surgery.
