I was on percocet for a broken tailbone during pregnancy. 1-6 pills a day of 5 mg. My baby was born 10 wks ago with zero withdrawals and is extremel healthy. The birth was fine, his agpar scores 9 - high - and he's an ideal baby. I was very worried, but everything was ok. 60 mg was more than I took, so baby could have withdrawls. Maybe she ca cut back a bit? talk to her doc to taper slightly and slowly as to not shock baby. I was told 80mg was pushing it, but 15-30 was ok. it obviously was for me as my son was fine.
talk to doc about a slow taper, 7 months, you still have eight weeks, she could get down to 40 mg a day.
good luck!
I do have a lot of OB experience but this is only my opinion and you know how that saying goes about opinions goes.....That is a pretty good amount of Percocet for her to be taking....The baby will go through withdrawal but as long as everyone involved in her care....L& D nurses/OB's/NICU staff/Perinatologists are all on the same page, there are ways to keep the baby comfortable and get her/him through the w/d as easily as possible postpartum. Is Mom going through any kind of prenatal testing or serial ultrasounds? Just to keep make sure the baby is doing ok in utero? She wouldn't be the first and certainly will not be the last to be in this situation. I hope everything works out for her and the baby!
you will find many many posts that address this issue in the forum, but i'm sure someone will answer you. In the meantime try looking at the back posts on here and read what others have said about this. good luck.
Look for a women named Marce here.. she is a OB nurse.. she can tell you all the details.. From what I have read about this the baby has about a 50% chance of having withdrawls.. If she has been honest with her OB then they will handle any discomfort the baby has at birth which seems to me to be mostly fussiness, sleeplessness ect.. the placenta does protect the baby to some degree..
Like I said seek out Marce she will give her professional opinion
