I don't really think there's much of a difference, based on what I've read. Oxy, hydro, morphine are all full agonist opiates with similar analgesic properties and withdrawals. Now you can probably find big differences between these opiates and others such as fentanyl, methadone, and suboxone.
Oxycodone stays in your system longer - however it has the same 'effect' duration as Hydrocodone.
I've always found Oxy to be stronger, but a bit more of a 'rough' (lack of a better description) high. Hydro took more pills, but the high was more euphoric for me -- peaceful but excited and full of energy - and can't stop talking.
In the end - Oxy will probably take longer to over come WD's. We're talking maybe 2-3 days, but that's a long time when you are feeling sick.
oxy codone is a higher class drug then hydro. it can only be filled w/ a written rx and refills are agianst the law. so that in itself tells you its a strong med. i have had w/d's from both and the oxyxodone are ALOT worse than hydro.
Looks like I learned something new today ...
Are you sure about the scheduling? I am fairly certain I've had Perc scripts with refills.
If you get pure oxycodone, it's a schedule II -- but I'm fairly certain, mixed with tylenol/asprin/etc... it's schedule III (same as Hydrocodone - alone 2 - mixed 3).
In any case, it definately 'seems' stronger to me. 60-70MG of Percs always seemed as intense to me as 120/150 Vicodin - but I didn't like the feeling as much.
Everything I've read though, does point to longer/worse WD's >= Methadone WD.
I've read that methadone w/d is worse than any full agonist opiate because of the 24 - 36 hr half-life (compared to 2 - 4 hrs for oxy or hydro). Symptoms are apparently milder but they last a long time, or so I hear.
yes i am certain about the scheduling. percs cannot be called in by your dr., you must have a written rx, and if you read your bottle from the pharmacy it will say "refills prohibited by law"
i dont no wether your asking because your taking it for med reasons or just for fun but i will tell you that oxy is very addictive and dangerous im in a 3 year relationship with someone who is getting over his addiction with it and i have spent many nights trying to convince him he isnt dieing or going completely crazy he is 6'3 and weighs 120 pounds because he cant eat and right know feels he has nothing to live for
120 pounds!! that is beyond skeletal for somene so tall, especialy a man.. surely he must have other health issues at this time due to extrememe weight loss?
what is his normal weight- is he seeing a doc at all?
Please get him to an MD if you ave not so far, his electrolytes may be so out of whack his heart can be damaged. ( what happens to anorexics)
sorry.. this just worries me...dont mean to give unwanted advice, so be careful.
As far as Oxycodone.. it must be phoned in each month to the doc for a refill, and the doc has to do 3x the paperwork for this narcotic.
5 mg of Oxy to 5 mg of Vicodin-- tha Oxy is stronger my Dr. says, and that is why it is controlled more than Vicodin which gets mailed out on refills.
