I heard about this coming at UCLA about a week ago Guy..Jim
wax matrices, naloxone, naltrexone r a minor hurdle 4 a determined junkie.Harm reduction is the key.its like an arms race between pharms and addicts.as quick as a pharmco has engineered a stratedgy to counter abuse, sum clever addict will develop a way around it.In my country a single syndicate was responsible 4 almost all the heroin here.when this syndicate was busted we developed a way to synthethise heroin and 6mam from otc codeine and apap tabs.
never underestimate the ingenuity of a desperate addict.
We are very ingenious aren't we?
Unfortunatly addicts find a way... they always do... Even with Suboxone they put the naloxone in it so people could not shoot it up.... addicts did it and the naloxone did not work as well as the drug co intended.. It seems like even b4 these drugs are approved someone already has a way around it.. The Insanity of an Addict...
I think there are just addicts out there that are smart with chemistry and are ahead of the drug makers... I was shocked to read people were shooting Subs... the whole point of the naloxone was to "discourage" it...
It also says that FDA guidelines allow Oxycontin to be prescribed for moderate pain. The people in the meeting want it categorized for severe pain only. I think they need to take a look at the docs that prescribe this stuff and "pass it out like candy" as wickedwanderer said. Also, my pharmacist told me that they're trying to formulate Oxy to include naloxone or some similar drug suspended in the Oxy. That way, if it's chewed or crushed the oxy will be counteracted by the naloxone. Sounds like a good idea to me...
well...when they pass it out like candy...
who would be naieve enuff to fall 4 that.ne codeine, morphine and thebaine derivative will hav habit forming potentials.suckers to fall 4 that **** and bull story in the first place.
fool me once shame on u.fool me twice shame on me.(take note G Dubleya)
oxycontin is addictive? get outta here :-O
(former oxy abuser here)
:P it's not funny but oh my...like HELLO...those people are SO stupid to not have disclosed certain information.
They pleaded guilty in May. Today was sentencing. After a 4 hour meeting the 634 million fine was disclosed. Here's another fact from the article...
From 1996 to 2001, the number of oxycodone-related deaths nationwide increased fivefold while the annual number of OxyContin prescriptions increased nearly 20-fold, according to a report by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. In 2002, the DEA said the drug caused 146 deaths and contributed to another 318.
Scary...
Didn't this happen a few months ago?? Did they still not pay up the money?? yeah they got sued big time... lied to the FDA....
