Oxycontin

I'm wondering if 1 oxycontin (80mg) that my BF gives me every day to assist in my wean will help me.  I am having minimal WD signs but the physical pain for which I was initially prescribed 3 Dils (8mgs each) per day by the former doc comes roaring back every morning.  I am no longer on the Dilaudids.

Oh gees! I didn't know you had replied to my post about this. I'm so sorry I never replied to you. I do appreciate what you wrote, so thanks. I'm off Tramadol and feel terrific, mentally. No anxiety whatsoever since I stopped it on the 11th April. Weaning off valium & zopiclone now. Next will be the Oxycontin, hopefully, as it doesn't seem to help my arthritis pain much, but it does a little, I guess. I'll wait and see, as I'll have to get off valium first. I've been told that is a long process. Haven't had any today so far. It's nearly 11am. I leave it as long as poss, as I hate having to take it. Went 26 hrs without taking it & zopiclone, last week, and I suffered terribly. I was trying to see if could just stop it ct, but, no, I had to give in and take that and zopiclone. At least I know now, the danger of stopping those ct and I'm glad I experienced it, so I can understand more. Everything is finally happening for me concerning my bowels and arthritis. I'm having a bowel op next Tues, the 30th. YAY! I'll soon be able to eat normally again. Getting a Spinal Nerve Root injection in my spine where all the pain radiates from, in one of the vertebrae sipped way over to the side, out of alignment with the rest, so hoping that'll relieve my pain from that. The next and last resort option is surgery, which I'm not keen on as it has the risk of paralysis. I've renewed my faith in the last 2 months, and believing I am being healed, and I am, as things are happening for my good now. I'm finally getting well! Thanks to this website too. It's been a great source of comfort with great advice, understanding & support!

Your plate is full, Shugalug.  That's for sure.  I'm not familiar with zopiclone.  I'll google it and find out more about it.  What is your plan to deal with the trams, valium etc.?  Let us know..  All the best to you.

Hi Ricart.  I spoke to my BF about this and we concur that I still have relatively the same amount of opiates in my system, the difference being I am taking one long acting as opposed to 3 or 4 short actors.  No wonder I am not uncomfortable.  I really haven't withdrawn from anything.  He's running low on his meds, though, and I can't impose on him anymore.  What I do have is a script for Fioricet with codeine.  It's a much smaller dose of what I have been taking but I think using these with caution would constitute a legit taper.

I hope your aster was wonderful and that the Easter Bunny was very good to you this year...

Hi again. I noticed your post about oxycontin. That's another med I'm on that I want to get off, as with all the other meds I'm on, as none are working any more for what they were prescribed for in the first place.  I have to deal with tramadol withdrawal first though. Anyway, I'm on 20mg oxycontin morning, and 30mg afternoon, plus oxycodone 5-10mg for breakthrough pain. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, so as to find advice from those who have been weaned off this disgusting and dangerous drug. I didn't mention this med as yet another one I'm on, in my other posts, as I'm seeking help and support for tramadol, valium & zopiclone withdrawal first.
Thanks.

Hi Kath, thanks for the Easter wishes and I hope yours also was the best. I hope you've chosen the shortest route for you to make it to freedom from the bondage of opiates while also dealing with the underlying medical condition, which is just as important. It's quite a balance to achieve, even with the help of an MD. As for kicking the opiates, we've all been through getting clean here and know what you're going through right now.  Getting clean is a decision we've all made for ourselves. Nobody made it for us or it wouldn't have ever worked. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Hey Katherine   open mind had some good advice.Getting it over with can have alot of advantages. You may find that once off of the meds you will have less pain.  Just hang in and keep posting.  I would not do the 80s.It's not really a step down once you count up the milligrams.  happy easter to you too.

Thanks, OpenMind.  You have given me something to think about.  I now do not believe my WD will be overly traumatic due to my relatively low use of opiates (my interpretation).  We shall see.  What remains is what to do with the underlying medical condition that led to the habituation.  It's clear I need a new MD.  There aren't enough disparaging remarks I could make about my former pain mgmt. doc.  Anyway...... I'll keep reading and then posting, when appropriate, and see where I end up.  SO far, ok.

Best to you on this lovely holiday from an atheist who did make her way to an Episcopalian service on Good Friday that was pretty uplifting...

H Katherine,  I'm not a medical professional here, just a recovering addict. My thinking is; If you no longer see the prescribing physician and can't get help for your pain from him anymore, it's time to get a new physician. You gotta take care of your pain. Shoveling different styles of unprescribed opiates on Dilaudid withdrawal isn't going to do too much for you except extend WD. It might not be too bad if you tried to jump off of everything right now and go through final WD? I also thinking that taking the route you're now could possibly ruin your chances of getting future medical help for your pain if a new doctor picks up on what's been going on with you. Not judging here, just sayin. I hope everything works out for you soon.
