Pain Meds Compare and Contrast

by djabq14, Sep 25, 2007 07:03PM
Hello,

I'm new to this forum; discovered it while Googling for effects of taking Kolonopin and Vicodin at the same time. Sounds like something I don't want to do as I don't know what a heroin high feels like.

Anyway I've been on Kolonopin for many years succesfully treated for anxiety/panic disorder. I've also used Tylenol 3/Codiene occasionally for pain associated with irritable bowl syndrome. Recently I messed up my knee and have had my fist experience with Vicodin.

To keep my first post short, what exactly is the difference between codiene and Vicodin; is it the same narcotic just refined to different purities perhaps? Does tha in turn lead to morphine and heroine in increasing strengths.

Thank you...

vicodin is synthesised from codeine

codeine is synthesised from morphine. hydrocodone (vicodin) is much stronger and produces more of a likeable buzz for the user. most people abusing opiates move on from codeine quickly because it does not have such a narcotic punch to it.
i think 60mg of codeine can be considered to be equal to 10mg of hydrocodone. not quite sure tho

he opium poppy, Papaver somniferum, is the type of poppy from which opium and all refined opiates such as morphine, thebaine, codeine, papaverine, and noscapine are extracted.

All opiates including heroin are derived from this, although the process is different resulting in different purities and characteristics.

if you are scared of getting hooked on vicodin, you don't have to be if you watch yourself. keep your Dr. informed in how much you are taking and need. be cautious if you start taking it for ANY reason other than your knee. many of us here have gotten hooked on hydrocodone and it is not a pretty path.

my step-mom, a woman with great convictions, was prescribed vicodin for her back. she had no problem taking it and getting off of it after she healed. many people use it in the right way.

I quit taking benzodiazipene's (tranquilizers) about 18 months ago in the form of Xanax, Valium, and Atavan; although I have taken Klonopin occasionally. Just recently (8 weeks ago) I stopped taking painkillers (Tylenol-4 + Vicodin @ 10-15/day).  Comparing the general hells of both episodes of physical withdrawl, I can say without reservation that the tranquilizers were MUCH harsher to stop.  I spent alot of nights awake and alot of days severely jittery/crawly before I finally got them out of my system.  DO NOT do this without a Dr. supervision. The backlash from abruptly stopping tranq's can be very, very dangerous.
