Pain control

I have a nice little 7 inch slice through my belly, they also had to cut through the stomach muscle on their way to the kidney. This hurts a lot. They also had to jostle the kidney itself to get to the tumor. Well anyway the pain is uncomfortable and moving makes it worse. When I awoke I had two pain blocks, one where they cut and one deeper into where they worked on my kidney. These took away a lot of the pain. I also had the button to push which gave me a small but quick dose of dilaudid. They were giving me heck about not using it enough but I just wasn't in much pain at first. When they took the diluadid away I refused oxycodene and I now take norco when needed. So I feel that my med situation is under control. My whole demeanor has changed about taking any pill since I started recovery. I didn't deny myself medication, I just played it a little more cautious then I may have a few years back. If I would have had the same problem this time last year I don't know if they could have treated me the same way. I couldn't be happier and feel more blessed than I do right now. I've stopped all that nonsensical behavior and have gotten to know some of the greatest people in this whole world. Thanks again to all for pulling me through one tough situation...ike

Ike,

I have been away for a week or so (vacation) but wanted to come here and say "congrats!" for getting thru this.   You'll be sore for a while, but I think you will feel  a little better every day.   Hang in there, and go EASY on yourself...your body is doing serious work to heal up being cut into.

Sending Prayers,
-Robin

Hey Ike!! Glad the surgery went well! I was in the same boat. I had a tumour removed in January and have the big insision too, along with 4 smaller ones for cameras and they're utensils. I also woke up on a dilaudid drip and I also refused the oxy. I was in the hospital almost a week. I left my script on the little table by my bed when I left. I really should have gotten it filled but I was only 2 months clean and terrified. So it took a LONG time to heal because I was in constant pain. Listen to MsD and take your meds when needed!! You're such a strong soul I don't have a doubt in my mind you won't pull through this just fine!! xox Krissy

Man o Man was I sore today, had to cut the walks back some. I'll know more in a 1 1/2 weeks but it looks like no treatment of any kind. I am taking the norco's every 4/5 hours, just one at a time though. They are working too. I see no problems ahead with that pill with over taking or any abuse. You know, I really don't want to go back to that awful life I had and why would I? Maybe my luck is changing? Thanks again everybody...ike

Hi!
Do what you feel you need to do.

Yes, it is amazing how we get intune with these Addicting meds and feel that we do not want to play with fire anymore.

I know when he put the second stent in, I had to stay over in the hospital and I only got a few meds to make me comfort but took none home..

Be Safe and take good care of YOU!! lol

Hey ike...How are you feeling? Yes, please don't deny yourself pain medication. I mean you have been cut all over the place. You're gonna need them for awhile, so don't feel guilty ok? Just try and keep the pain at bay. I had to take some pain meds also, but my little root canal cannot compare to what you went through, but that sucker hurt!! I also felt guilty, but the pain was a lot. So I took it. No biggee.  I hope you are resting and are comfortable. I bet your family is SO happy you are home. Right? And always remember, we are all always here for you. I mean, I can't speak for everyone, but you can count on me brother! Take it easy.

Hi Ike! Well another day conquered! Great job fabulous attitude. The pain you have is real and though I am glad you are being cautious, it is important that you keep your pain levels steady. Take the narco as prescribed, every time you are supposed to, every 4-6 hours or whatever it say. If you skip a dose your pain could escalate to a 10, and then you will have to take more meds to get it back under control than you would have if you kept the dose steady. The great thing about surgical pain is that it improves a little bit every day. After a week to 10 days your need for the medicine will decrease, and you can start decreasing and tapering the hydro. Just keep vigilant the way you have been and things will be fine.  So proud of you! Any chemo or radiation needed?

Awe Ike this is so great. I have tears for your my friend. Your whole demeanor is so awesome. You are a true warrior and survivor. You are going to be just fine. You have made it to the other side. I am so truly proud of you.
Please take the norco  as needed. You need to heal and if you have to much untreated pain it will cause you to have more stress and anxiety.
You are blessed. We are here for you. You have a wonderful and beautful
Family. The LORD is with you and HE is the best friend you could have.
Continued  blessings my sweet friend. You deserve all things good.
You have kept the faith and now you are ending rewarded.
Much love, Debbie
