Percocet Withdrawal Questions

Hello,
I previously posted a message regarding percocet withdrawal.  I have just 2 more questions and if anyone can help me with these 2, I will be so happy.

I have been on percocet for about 1 year, just 2 tablets (5mg each) in the morning, for the past year.  Nothing in the afternoon and nothing in the evening.

I tried to stop a couple of weeks ago and on the 2nd day I started having shakes, so I started back up again.  The shakes went away, and then a couple of days later I stopped again, and the same thing happened.

I am planning to stop on Monday this week.

Here are my questions:

1)  My doctor prescribed me Xanax .25mg (smallest dose) a month ago.  He doesn't know about the percocet.  I haven't started taking it yet.  He told me to take it in the evening before bed only if I need it.  Do I have to stop taking percocet when I take that?  When I stop this week, can I take xanax, or do I need to wait a few days until the percocet is out of my system?

2)  I am back on percocet every day (in the morning), but for some reason, now I am getting the shakes in the evening.  Is this something to worry about?

3)  I know that it is advertised that percocet causes liver problems.  Since I have only been on it for a year, is this something I need to worry about?  I don't have any problems (that I know of).  But I am paranoid that the use may have caused some liver problems.  I am the kind of person who is worried about medical problems all the time and every time I have been worried about something, it turned out that nothing was wrong at all.  Is it possible that the percocet I have been taking has done some liver damage?  I don't have any reason to believe that it has... just curious.

4)  When I stop, how long will the shakes last?

5)  I have a bunch of pills... should I switch to 1 pill in the AM for a week or so, then switch to 1/2 pill in the AM, then every other day?  Will this make it easier?

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for all of your help.  I am shooting for MONDAY to stop.  I have some extra pills 'just in case' but I am hoping I can do it.

PLEASE ANSWER THE 5 questions above, and thanks to all of you!

1) Xanax can be taken with the percocet. I would suggest that you use it sparingly for the shakes after quitting the percs. Also, two weeks max on the Xanax. It is as addicting or more so than the percs, and the benzo withdrawal makes percocet withdrawal seem like a walk in the park.
2) The shakes are normal, as is Restless Leg Syndrome. Both should resolve or at least get much better by the second week. The Xanax will help some..again just be very careful.
3) Percocet contains Oxycodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol as a brand name). two Percocet a day is well below the 4,0000 or so milligram suggested ceiling for it. Your liver should be fine. You can ask the doctor to draw blood and do a liver panel if you're really concerned.
4) See # 2
5) You can taper if you choose. Some people can taper, some can't. I couldn't. To be honest, you're taking such a low dose, going cold turkey would probably be best. Again, it's up to you. If you try ct and can't, then cut your dose by 1/4 every 5-7 days and see how that works.

There's some more info on my profile page if you're interested..Just click the blue Ga Guy link to the left of this post.

To try to help ANSWER the ? you ask

The pills you are taking (percs) are a very low dose. However you will still feel some discomfort when stoping.
Taking the xanax with the percocet is not a problem. But why would you take the xanax. usually when you hit 48 hours with no Percocet is when the worse of the withdraws seem to happen. You could then use the xanax to help with the discomfort at NIGHT. I may be wrong but with such a low dose of perc you may not feel all that bad.

The shakes in the evening, I'm not sure what that could be but maybe you are having a bit of anxiety jsut thinking about stoping the pills. You could take 1 one xanax before bed and see if that helps you at all.

I can only speak from my 13 years of LARGE doses of narcs. I have NO liver problems. The APAP in the amount that you are taking is not liver damaging. I dont think you have to worry about that.

When you stop the worse of the "shakes" should be over in a week or less.Again with the small amount you are taking you should have mild withdraws..

5) you could defiantely do that, switching to one and working your way down. If that's what makes you feel comfortable go for it. It definately wont hurt to taper off!

I hope these answsers can help you please feel free to ask away. I'm sure others will be along to help as well..
Good Luck

I have always said "you cant talk enough about your liver"  This seems to be the topic of the day! If you go on the other forum you can even read about a DOG with liver failer. Its almost like the same person is writing all these post about their liver. Is their a liver forum on here? I might start one. I might even start one about GIZZARDS.
