Percocet withdrawals, how long do they last?

I was prescribed percocets (5/325) about 1 1/2 years ago for chronic back pain (scoliosis mainly). I took them as prescribed for a while and then started increasing the dosage until I was taking upwards of 14 a day (I could take 8 per my script).

I decided about a week ago to stop. I tapered down to 8 a day, I guess that's not great but I just can't have them around me without taking them.

I have been without for 36 hours and of course I feel like hell in a hand basket. The longest I've ever gone is about 30 hours.

My question is: How long until I start to feel better? I am off of work for a week (I planned this to coincide with my vacation).
I would have gone into a detox or something but I have no one to take care of my house, etc.

So, I am a college graduate who just took percocets for fun.  And fun became a daily thing.  I work two jobs and am scared to come off because I don't know how I am going to be able to come off this crap while working doubles and so on.  I can not afford to take days off or I can't pay my car payment, mortgage, school loans, insurance, utilities, credit cards, and so on.  But, I can't afford to keep spending hundreds of dollars a week between me and my husband to keep doing them.  Today is the 100th first day that I have tried to stop.  Saturday, he and I snorted one 10 mg and hald a 10mg before bed.  Yesterday, I had one 10 mg for myself.  And Today I have had nothing.  Last night was bad.  I always can't sleep bc my legs hurt so bad.  Its like that restless leg syndrome commercial.  I wake up and just have to move my legs.  Its horrible.  I am trying to stay positive today.  I know where to go get some and make it all stop but I am trying not to.  I know I will feel better if I do though.  So its hard.  I can't go see a doctor because I don't want my addiction to be documented. I am too proud. Today I am just going through the hot then cold routine, no energy, and body aches.  What should I do... ahhh...

Wow I just read your story and it reminds me alot of myself.  I just wanted to look up withdrawal symptoms and how long they last because I am going thru them right now and I want to die so I came across your story and I thought I wrote it.  I take them for the same reason I was perscribed them for cronic back pain about a year ago and siince then they have just upped the pills and upped the dose now I'm findind yself taking more than needed just to function and have energy.  They make me happy and I have 5 kids so I can do alot more with them and keep up with them but with out them I find myself not being able to even get out of bed.  Well neddless to say I overtook this month and my perscription isn't due till thursday aand here it is only saturday so withdrawals it is and let me tell you this is some painful **** but yet I'm all alone cause the kids have no idea and my bf could give a ****.....

I know how you feel brother. Ive been taking Perks for 3 and a half years for 5 differant surgerys. If i forget to take them every 6 hours Im in the bathroom with it coming out of all of my holes in my body. I ache and I get really bad shakes in my legs and hands and I  cant stop it. I feel like I have the flu.  When I stand up I get dizzy and feel like im going to pass out. I want to stop but Im scared because I have more surgerys to come and the docs have told me I will need the pain pills to get through the other surgerys but when I ask if they are going to help me get off them they dont have an answer because its workmens comp who is footing the doc bills. I wish you the best and I hope you a long and healthy life. Good luck my friend

I was up to 6-7 10's a day when I decided to stop after 10 yrs.  this is day 7 & I am just starting to feel better. I have slept a total of 12 hrs. in 7 nights.  The emotional rollercoaster is hell.   Opiates suppresses your emotions & they all come out when you stop.  I find myself crying without reason & hating my life.  Besides stomach cramps & leg pain, these are not unique symptoms of withdrawl.  My wife has them all the time for her health issues & pain management & will be on them for the rest of her life, unfortunately.  I am done & wish you all luck.  You'll know when it's time to stop.

I'm new here but I've had extensive experience with suboxone.  Be very careful with suboxone.  It is addictive and has a long 1/2 life which means it stays in the body a long time.  I'm off suboxone 41 days after five years being on it.  I had to get off because I had shoulder surgery and it was a painful experience because the suboxone does not allow opioids to work. I found a doc who has prescribed Percocet and slow acting morphine to help withdraw from sub.  It sounds contradictive but the weaning off the Percy's is easier than suboxone.  I think it was intended for very short-term use so don't let yourself rely on the subs. Ngood luck.  The few days w/drawing off opiates is worth it.  Also get some help like AA. Research shows addicts need support.
