Getting off Lorcet

I was in a car wreck back in October of 2004. My dr. put me on lorcet for my back and since then it has gotten way out of hand. I have learned to cut back but I can not manage to funtion without them. I am trying to find a place to go for help because I was told not to detox yourself. My body feels like it lacking so much, so if anyone knows a good place to get help in the Houston area please let me know. Thanks....

If u still need rehab in houston. I highly recommend the Parc and let them keep u there as long as possible. U will be home sick but if u go down this path again u will regret not staying longer. I've gone twice and probably gonna go again for the same pills as you. The hardest part is when this addiction tells us to go to rehab, get clean, show others we did a time in the institution and then try to keep it a big secret when we get on it again. IT NeVER WORKS!!! If u need to keep going to rehab then do so. Don't ever give up cause we just become statistics and no one remembers addicts because its a bad sad story to repeat to others.... EXCEPT to other addicts. I am a former Marine with respected medals and missions that put my name on a honorable level. Now Im a addict that "was" a Marine and "use" to do great things. Even worse I hate having to leave my family... Especially my beautiful innocent daughter that now by default has a high percent to follow my path if I don't straighten up. SO get in Rehab and keep putting the right foot forward

If you truly have moved into Addiction, the I would suggest rehab for getting and STAYING clean.  I found that it was relatively easy (at least at first) to get off hydrocodone - it was the staying off that was the problem.

I don't know much about places west of the Mississippi, but you might take a look at http://www.usnodrugs.com/rehabs.php/US/Texas/Houston

That just happened to be the first of 909,000 sites returned when I typed >rehab houston addiction< into Google.

Rehab was not only a big help for me, it was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.  I did home detoxes time after time, building up 30 days several times, 45 days, even 58 days once.  But I ALWAYS went back to the tabs for some reason that at the time seemed like a good reason.  Of course, once I started again it ALWAYS got quickly out of control again (that's what Addiction does, it gets out of control).

I actually went through Rehab twice.  Once for a 28 day deal after which I relapsed w/i 36 hours.  The second was much longer (122 days), but it seems to have stuck - I now have 591 days and Recovery is a significant part of my life every day.

Of course I don't know you or how deeply you may be into your Addiction, so it's hard to say how much if any Rehab you might need.  Many people get and stay clean with no Rehab, but with the help of a program like AA or NA.  I go primarily to AA and I go to a fair number of meetings on a regular basis.

Keep in mind that Addiction is a relentlessly progressive disease, which is always fatal unless it's arrested.  Good luck to you.

Sue, just hop on down to the ER, or make an appointment with your doctor. They will help you. I told my doctor I didnt want anymore pain meds, and he has helped with non narcotic ways to help go c/t. (cold turkey)

They dont work as well when I up the dose of pain meds, but that is the problem. We always have to up the dose to keep the pain down. Where do we stop? In the grave? So we have pain, heck, the pain meds kept not working until I took more. Well no more for me.

The doc's will help believe me.

Good luck!
