Please help with dental procedure on methadone

Hello I've been in the methadone program for 2.5 years and I'm at 90mg.   I need some major dental work and my dentist told me I'll be taking Halcion.   I've (of course) told him everything and even the house dr. at the clinic.  The dr. says I "should" be ok -- those were his exact words.   I'm to take one pill the night before and two an hour before my appointment.

They both just seem so nonchalant about it and that it's "no big deal" ----  I have the most stress I've had in my recovery these past few weeks from a 14 year old daughter (another thread all together) and I live with the shakes and the double heart rate daily from her.   I'm *really* afraid I'll LIKE this drug as I'm sure it will calm down my almost constant life killing anxiety.    Help.

Your clinic dr and your dentist both being made aware is a GOOD thing.
They may not be using the right "words" to assure you or give you peace of mind that taking a total of 3 pills is safe....but using an drug interaction checker will prove to you that taking one the night b4 and 2 just before your major dental procedure is not dangerous.  You will not get addicted by taking 3 pills.  You will surely be more comfortable during your procedure.

Oh yes, just the 3 pills...  I was never "into" benzos (despite an addict sure giving them a try!) but I remember entering the methadone program and CONSTANTLY being told mixing benzos and methadone can KILL you.   Hence, I don't want to die in the dentist chair!  (or in my sleep the night before)

It's just weird how both doctors/dentists just dismiss my concern as if they almost don't even know...  WEIRD....

I totally understand where you're coming from!!! I had to have a tumour removed 80 days into my recovery of quitting oxycodone. Something's are just out of our hands. Are these the only 3 pills you have acsess too or is he giving a script for them? I was on I've meds for almost 10 days after surgery but I left my script on the side table at the hospital when I left. These aren't relapses they're part of life. And if you're this scared then talk to the dentist and see what else can been done maybe?

Thank you.  My main concern was simply for my health - I'm to the point in my recovery where I don't see myself relapsing down a horrible path.  I thought that benzos and Methadone did NOT mix....

I've done some reading on this.  This is a fairly common drug used by dentists to reduce anxiety when going to the dentist.  If you decide to take is route you will need to have someone drive you there and back home after the procedure.  Your dentist has probably already told you this.  In the end this is your decision.  You're the only one who can make this choice.  If you don't feel comfortable with this drug then tell the dentist.  You have the right to refuse a treatment if you feel it's dangerous to your health.
