Please help

I've been addicted to Norco for about two years.  probably have averaged 6-10 pills a day, but lately if I can get em its been more like 12-16 (4 at a time).  Now its become increasingly difficult to get them.  For the first time the Wds are really unbearable.  I have to quit or I'm going to die.  I've decided now is the time get through this but at the same time I have responsibilities that are scaring me.  I'm married with two kids, one of which is a 4month old daughter.  I work 45 hours a week (cannot take time off) and 3 nights a week I have the kids by myself.  I have zero energy or will to do anything.  Yet I still have to take care of the baby and my other daughter.  I'm gonna have to do this without the benefit of getting a break.  My wife doesnt know.  Basically I'm asking for any advice on how to handle what I know Im about to go through.  Thanks for listening.

You may think you are miserable and sick, but that is better than the alternative.  You may not be the best daddy in the world while going thru it, but on the other side you can then be a wonderful father for  your kids without being drugged up.  Think of the money you will save for their college education if you are not buying on the street.  Here is a post I use to help.  I hope it does.

I kept telling myself...YOU HAVE the FLU!  It will be over and I will feel so much better.  My brain seemed to get that and settled down a little.  It is hard, but doable!  The Thomas Recipe (bottom of the page) under Health Pages will help.  I did not to the tranquilizers and had to cut back on the Ltryosine, but the rest really helped.  Imodium, Imodium, Imodium (liquid or pills if the liquid can't be found or you can't swallow it) will help.  I took double the dosage for a few days (personal choice) and it helped so much..even with the withdrawals in general and the opiate trots which sucked.

Hydrate and eat! ((gatorade is good) Even if it is just a little every hour or so.(boost or ensure might work for both food and drink)  You have to eat something to keep your energy up as much as possible.

If you have Restless legs..it is hit or miss what works.  Walking seemed to help me some.  Hot bath with epsom salts..a little.  I finally had to get my doctor to refill my restless legs meds (non addictive) to get some sleep.  If nothing works, your doctor might help.  Benedryl helps some with sleep issues and you will have them.

One hour at a time is all anyone can ask.  After 2 weeks it gets a little better and I started to say, One day at a time!  Your brain will do all sorts of things to get you to take a pill.  I found if I was hungry..the cravings got worse.  I would try to eat a banana, a few grapes or a few crackers to get that under control.

The hardest part comes after the detox.  Your brain will be all over the place and will try to get you back on the pills...It is having to work and not depend on the pills to help.

Good for you.  I hope all goes well.  You have made a good start coming here....this site has helped me so much!!!  Keep posting!!!!!

Hi and welcome.  I agree with Lostnomore - you are definitely in a tough spot.  For at least the 2 and 3rd day you are going to feel pretty rough - can you just let your wife think you have the flu?   I just kept telling myself it was the worst flu of my life.  Definitely stock up on immodium as you will need it.  Showers - lots of hot showers will help the creepy crawlies.

You can do this if you put your mind to it.  Wishing you the best and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Welcome. You're in a difficult spot. How badly do you want off the pills?
How long have you been taking that dose? I feel your pain. I've been there
my friend. I would say that at the very least get a little time off work. As you know you're going to feel pretty bad for a few days. 4-5 days and you'll feel better. Arm yourself with the thomas recipe, gatorade and immodium.
You say you have to quit or you're going to die. Yes, well put.  So do what you have to do and stop using. Make a decision to get clean. You may need to make some difficult choices, but the most important thing is that you get clean. Take care and keep posting.
