Pregnancy After Narcotics

Hello!  I am thrilled to have just discovered that I'm pregnant.  However, it does bring upon some worry.  It's now May and I should be no more that 4 weeks pregnant.  I injured my low back a short while ago and have been on prescribed narcotics like vicodin, lortab, and trans-dermal phentanyl.  With doctor's supervision I was able to ween myself off of the last course of pain medication that I'd been taking for approximately a year and a half.  That course consisting of trans-dermal phentanyl 10mcg/hr, along with the occassional Flexeril and 800mg ibuprofen.  I have been off this course and haven't been taking anything since February this year.  Now that it's May and I am about 4 weeks pregnant, should I be concerned?  Is it too soon? I am 28 yrs. old and have kept up an exercise routine since January of this year. Please help.

CONGRATS!  You and your baby will be just fine!  My doctor said no problems what so ever from past use, even if you JUST stopped yesterday!  Narcotics will NOT hurt your baby.  What hurts your baby is being born addicted, thats all, and your baby won't be, so no worries!

Hi!
I can't give you med advice, but can give you some of my own experience. My periods were very irregular, so I didn't know I was pregnant till I was 8 weeks, 5 days ( ultrasound after preg test determined that). I had been drinking wine and smoking pot BEFORE I knew I was pregnant, and confided in doc. She said not to worry, lots of people do that before they know they are preg, but to stop ASAP. Also, from when I was three months to 6 months preg, I had severe, debilitating migraines, vomiting included, and they tried everything safe for preg, and nothing worked. Finally, they prescribed Tylenol with Codeine and Compazine (sp?) ( Compazine is for nausea). I was an addict before becoming preg, and stopped immediately the day I found out I was having a baby, and WAS NOT looking for pain meds to get high just cuz I had migraines, but they were so bad, I had to take something! I ONLY took them when I had a migraine, but migraines would last up to two days at a time, coming as often as once a week for almost three months. My 2.5 yo son is fine and healthy. Sorry I can't give more advice, but that was my experience!! Good luck to you, and I'll pray for you!

You have been off everything for how long?  You should be fine....at 4 weeks you are still very early and prescribed amts of narcotics have been used during pregnancy....as long as you are off now.  I was 4 weeks pregnant with my first born and I was at my brother-in-laws wedding and was totally trashed!  That was the first ?? I asked my OB and he said I wouldn't believe how many women overindulge before they realize they are pregnant. My pregnancy was fine and my son is now a healthy 15 yr old. Enjoy your pregnancy and Congratulations!!! (Sorry and welcome to the forum!)
Peace,
Marcie
