Question about ultracet-or tranadol

Hi guys!! Been a while since I have posted... But I do have a question about a new drug the doc put me on... A few days ago I was admitted to the hospital with a killer kidney stone from hell..lol.. I'm doing ok as of now... But the Dr. put me on a med called ultracet aka tranadol.. I was reading the paper it came with it and it scared me to death.. I have been having alot of pain trying to pass this stone and they are allowing me 4 of these pain pills a day but I have noticed they wear off faster then my loritabs... Does anyone know off hand or from experiance how much is to much.. sometimes the papers they give out with pain pills scare me so much... it talks about dealth if taking to many but it also says you can take up to 8 in a day... Does anyone know what is a safe number until my pain is gone... I assume a few days of this will work and I'll be 100% again... but any advice would be great.... Love you guys... Medical research shows that daily doses should not exceed 400mg and that it decreases the seizure threshold and at higher doses seizures, reports indicate 700mg single oral doses. You must also be careful if you are on an AD, because tramadol effect serotonin and if you are taking an AD, possible serotonin syndrome is possible. Tread lightly if using an AD. However, most say not to exceed 100mgs (tramadol is 50mg per pill and ultracet is 37.5mg per pill and then has APAP included) every 4-6 hours and not to exceed 400mg daily, which would be 8 tramadols and roughly 10.66 Ultracets.

Here is were I found the information online for your review:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tramadol

Good luck and be careful, because I've heard that it can have nasty WD's, which are probably not only associated to the opioid aspect, but also the SSRI component (almost ALL AD's have severe and VERY LONG drawn out WD's. It took me 8 failed attempts to end my SSRI and 1 year of tapering at .5mg a month). Not to scare you, but you will not want to stay on this med continuously for too long, in my opinion. However, always follow your doctors advice and you should discuss possible dependency to the tramadol, even though most medical professionals hand it out like candy bc it doesn't have the euphoric effect believed to be an "addictive" property of other opioids, like HC and OC (I say "believe", bc not all people will become addicted to opioids, but long term use causes dependency).

P.S. Read the 1st sentence in "Mechanism of Action" section on the above link and it will cause great concern to anyone, as stated; "The mode of action of tramadol has yet to be fully understood, but it is believed to work through modulation of the GABAergic, noradrenergic and serotonergic systems." Emphasis on the "has yet to be FULLY understood" should caution users.

Ultracet  (tramadol hydrocloride HCI)  it is very addictive and the WDs are BAD! i am going thru it right now after 2 years of heave use 15 tabs a day... it was taking 4 tabs 4 and 5 times a day thats a lot i am told. it works great for pain the first few days but it is les effective after a couple of weeks. you would be better of taking lortab or something because tramadol is not that strong even though it is addictive and hard to get off of the max dose acording to my DR is 8 50mg tabs in 24hrs... i was taking double that but i had been on it for 2 yrars and wad abusing it to feel better... take is a it is prescribed and if it dont stop the pain get your Doc to give yoou something stronger  hope this helps

Im amazed that they gave you Ultracet for kidney stones....They usually give you Demerol because the pain is so bad.....and then Percocet after that...Mistake is right......Don't take that.....I'd be on the phone with my Dr. right now telling him I want something stronger (Just remember to do what I can't....take as directed and discontinue when you feel better!)

I dont know much about tramadol, except it is very hard to w/d from.  harder than the othes, Ive heard.  Anyway, I had to jump in and say that Im just so suprised that they gave u that when u are in so much pain.  Now, maybe its just me, but they never even got rid of PMS for me...lol   Maybe others have more luck and pain relief.  Just wondering if anyone else thinks thats a lil stingy when u obviously are in pain.  If they offered me that when I was delivering my child (heard the 2 are similar), I might have lost it.  hahaha  lol
Really, Im sorry it isnt helpin much, but just not real shocked.  drs,,,,,,,get w/ it.  Anyway, I agree about taking what they say is the max.  I have a sneaking suspicion, we will one day here.........."Ultram is now known to be much more addictive and harder to quit than any narcotic out there....and btw, it doesn't do a thing for pain..."  LOL  really they need to learn more about what they rx.

Im loopy today from lack of sleep, but thought Id add my 2cents.  sorry, I didn't even answer your question.  Just talking......hope u get through this soon.  sorry.

sincerely,
tracy

Hi everyone I am new here but have been browsing and reading for about a week now. My friend told me about this forum. (RBC3)

I just wanted to share my experiance w/tramadol. I have used this to Dtox.  I will take 8 to 10 trams the first day and work my way down to only 2 or 3 and I would take those only right before I go to bed. This took  5 to 7 days then I was able to fuction pretty good without any pills w/no WDs.   The only reason I kept taking trams was becouse it worked well for RLS.
(I descovered pills took care of RLS) at that time I did not know  what that  creepy crawly feelin was. I have had this as long as I can remember.

A little of my drug history
I have been using percocet 10/325 for about 4 yrs. Started w/about 1 to 4 a day and not everyday just 2 or 3 times a week or when someone else happened to have some. Never went out looking for them and NEVER bought them.  Didn't wan't it that bad!!  (then)
Of course it started taking more and more to get a BUZZ.   The first yr, yr and half it was on and off.      Then my mother- n- law  was diagnosed w/cancer
It was every where. Skin, bones, lymphs....    She was presribed Morphine, liquid morphine, percs, lortab.....    Well of course I started taking a few here and there. I believe this is when I crossed that fine line from abuser to ADDICT!!

Anywho it got to where I was taking  20 to 35 10/325 percs a day or whatever I could find.  Lortab, Lorcet, Codien at what ever MGs I could get and pay up to  $7 a pill.  I found a girl who stole scripts and new how to do it.
This has got to be it for me, I can't get so bad that I would and could start doing that myself. Of course I had many different DRs writing scripts for me, I could get in a lot of trouble.   OH yea there was an accident that I had that tore a few discs in my neck a yr and a half ago.  Those of course were completely lagit.   He no longer will precribe anything for me.    I have a long history w/alcohol. Went to a few rehabs, had a few D.U.I.s.  Quit drinking w/no WDs.  Decided to try cocain skipping the snortin, smokin and went straight to shootin.  Did this for about a year, lost way too much money doin this so i quit!
That was about 6 or so years ago and have no desire to go back!     I have tried quite a few drugs once maybe twice.   I don't know why I never became addicted to those, or at least not physically.   I know I have an addictive personality but never really thout I was an addict, Until the pills.   Even so I remember being prescribed percs after surgery and after my children were born
I took one or two if I needed it and I only remember having to use it one time.
I don't know what I did w/ those pills guess I threw them out (can't imagine doing a stupid thing like that now) ha ha..  I want that part of my life back!!!! these ***** things are controlling my life. I am so tired of thinking how , when, where, I can get them.     Iam on my 2nd try w/methadone, The first time Iquit after about a month and was at 45mg. I really felt good no WDs that I couldn't handle.     The head part couldn't stop. I wasn't craving it or anything.   It was all a head thing.

Thats difficult in my opion to say, it depends on a persons tolerance level, what they used in the pass, if theyve used or an abuser. For example no drugs taken have an effect on me to stop pain, but if I took enough it could injure me. Best thing is to follow the orders and unfortunelty suffer through it. And if it get to bad remember go back to the hospital and a different order, but hydrocodone will probably be the next thing they give and that even worse from what ive heard in the matters of stopping pain, god bless
