Hey thanks,
Im glad Im not the ony one. Haven't heard any other women complain about it. Doctors have no idea, they look at me like uhhhhh! This $ucks!
I just google worsened mentrual symptoms after drug withdrawal and it says that what happens to the body when a woman has a period is the same thing that happens when someone has drug w/d's. That is messed up and not fair. Well that pms is caused by something very similar to drug w/d, in our case a womans hormones. Says that hormones "chemicals" that, in concert with the nervous system, coordinate with activities of billions of cells in the human body-in this case menstruation. throughout this discourse, the drug, so to speak, a womans own hormones. It says that Progesterone is a hormone prevalent in a womans body during menstrual cycle and during pregnancy. Progesterone is elevated in the second half of the menstrual cycle and drops to very low levels right before the pre-menstrual period. In my case Im guessing it is not raising high enough for me. Then it says the problem with hormones during menstruation occurs when progesterone is converted into another hormone called allopregnanolone, which acts like a sedative, or valium or even alcohol. This hormone can make you feel relaxed, reduce anxiety, and eveb reduces seizures. It's effects are to increase the effectiveness of a transmitter in the brain called GABA. GABA is a key tramsmitter in the nervous system, acting almost like a "plug and socket" between the nerves that communicate in drug use, its receptors are all over the brain. These are the drugs that our bodies are "begging" for during PMS. Allopregnanolone is like other drugs (valium, alcohol) in terms as acting as a GABA receptor. So basically, high doses of progesterone and allopregnanolone cause less anxiety and other synptoms of PMS. It goes on more from there....they are doing a lot of research on it. Find out something new everyday since Ive detoxed of that ****.
To start..topomax is the only thing that works for me. I still get a migraine here and there, more here these days though but i think that is due to stress. When i was using heavily there was months that i would actually skip a period here and there. After i detoxed and was clean my periods did get pretty bad along with the cramps but after a few months of that it did work itself back out. The cramps are still bad but you have to remember...you have no pain meds in your system. Hope this helped. Take care of yourself! hope you feel better soon!
