Question on Oxy use/15 day clean, non smoking

I finally went to the doctors today. I have been having upper back issues since I quit oxy's. After watching postings I've decided the pain comes from detox. Well, Friday pm my hubby was helping me out of the car as I was screaming in pain (only childbirth caused me to scream in pain). He couldn't touch my arms or any other upper part of my body. About 1/2 hour later the pain subsided enough to soak in the tub and I was in pain all weekend. I went to the docs today. Because I have been lifting a 60 pound student from her wheelchair and have been manuvering her around, I've managed to pull all muscles in my back, top to bottom. I am not able to take any anti-inflamitories for pain, Tylenol and Excederin don't work. I've been trying. The doc prescribed me oxy's, muscle relaxers and massage therapy along with physical therapy to follow once my pain subsides.

My question: if I take an oxy for pain, does this mean I have to start my pain pill recovery all over again? I don't plan on using them as a "drug", my use would be for extreme pain, the type I have when I sit for periods of time and pain comes on or when laying in bed. I don't even know about muscle relaxers. Never had them before. He told me he gave me very low dose pills. Oh, and I only have 15 oxy's compared to the 80 I used to get. I told him I was off of them.

Help! Maybe it is acceptance to stick around here is what I am looking for. I'm not giving up the fight. This will be a life long issue with me because of being on certain drugs that will not mix with anti-inflamitories.

Yep give the pills to your husband to dole out.  You are taking these becuz of an injury so you dont have to restart your tracker.  Just get better and then flush the rest!!!     sara

Thank you for the suggestions. I like the idea of asking my husband to dole them out to me. He is happy to see me off of them as much as I am yet he also understands my delimia with getting pain relief.

The doc did test my spine and I didn't have pain. I go back on the 22nd for a follow up. He may order more tests at that time.

I can't imagine how a herniated disc would feel. I'm glad you got well.

are you sure you pulled muscles or could you have herniated a disk or two?  did your doc want you to take an MRI?  i'm asking because i have been in that amount of pain with the same symptoms and it was due to herniated discs.  i have had steriod injections in both my neck and lower back and they did give me some relief.  i recently herniated two discs in my neck by simply lifting my 23lb daughter, excrutiating!!!!  i was given percs and to tell you the truth they did very little but take off the edge of the pain. (and get me further into my addiction!) my heart goes out to you, i've been there.  i believe if you are certain you will not abuse your drugs it would be okay, but maybe tell your husband and he can give them to you?
if your pain continues i would get an MRI, just to see.  also, when i was told i had 2 disc problems i scheduled for surgery, but because my doc said your body will heal on it's own eventually, i put the surgery off, and low and behold i slowly got well.  LOTS of ICE!!!  especially if you just injured yourself, lay off the heat for right now, in a couple of days switch between heat and ice.
