Running on empty. Need some insight

Running on empty. Need some insight

Im on almost 2 weeks clean from a year long lortab addiction and I am still battling stints with the runs.  Does anybody know when the bowel movents start to become regular again?  This rhea is got me all out of whack. Again I have been clean for 13 days now and I still have diarhea (diarrhea) almost daily and quite frankly its starting to **** me off.  Is there any hope in sight? Or am I plagued with party mud for the rest of my life.  That's how I feel?  Hold up.  I need to go blow up the toilet right about now.  Damn my insides are like a volcano.

Running on Empty eh? Considering my dad recorded that song with Jackson Browne when he was using (he's been clean 29 years now and still making music!), I felt like I needed to respond to you!

First of all, you're not alone....the runs are common and actually good for you. The Lortabs were constipating you and tearing your insides apart for the past year. Your flora and fauna need to get rebalanced and will do so on their own. In the mean time, Immodium is definitely your friend! I was on Norcos/Lortabs/Vicodin (all in the family) on and off (mostly on) for nearly a decade and boy was I on the toilet for a while....I've got 43 days now and I've been off the toilet since about the first week myself. Everyone's different. Just trust that you're doing your body and your life a huge favor by giving those up now!!

Wiping with moist baby wipes is helpful too because after a while, your tushy can get quite sore :( remember to drink LOTS of water and here's a tip that another member gave me.....if you haven't already, start taking a daily multi vitamin/multi mineral. When we abuse painkillers, we deplete our bodies of a lot of our own natural nutrients, including the stuff that makes us "regular". It will also help you out with any fatigue you may be experiencing.

Good luck to you and CONGRATULATIONS!!! You're doing an amazing job whether it feels like it right now or not ;)

I don't know exactly why you are still experiencing this, I am just guessing that you did not take immodium when you first stopped taking the hydrocodone.

If this is so, and I could be wrong here, you might want to take immodium, or it's generic work just as good replacement. I got the real stuff, then bought the generic stuff, and both worked just fine for me.

However, having the runs for this long could be a symptom of something else, I don't really know, I am not a doctor.

More will answer.

That is some great advice you gave. You obviously know some information about this. I would like to add please (no offense in any way) that while your advice is spot on, vitamins if taken to much can upset the digestive tract. I am in no way saying he should not follow your advice, in fact it should help him a great deal. I was just letting anyone know this who did not know, or forgot. What I don't know, and I would appreciate it if you could correct me, is if having diareha for that long is normal because of withdrawals. If it is, then I really think immodium can help him. If it's not normal, then it might be time for him to take a trip to the doctor and see if it's the withdrawals or something else.

No offense taken AT ALL! :)  The vitamins are absolute necessity BUT you're right, they can upset one's stomach if taken without food.  Are you eating TabularBro?? I'm not a doctor but do know A LOT about the topic of addiction from my own professional background. The runs are very common....two weeks straight is a toss up though. You may be right about seeing a doctor about the runs if they don't start to let up in the next few days. But yes, try the Immodium first and see if that helps. It should....

Thank you to everyone who responded.  I just wasn't sure it this is still part of the withdrawals and my body detoxing but I agree two weeks seems a little long for that.  The first couple of days were expected now I am wondering what else might be going on since it's now a daily thing for me.  It seems my stomach is all screwed up or something.  I try to eat semi-healthy food, drink a load of vitamin waters throughout the day and also I eat bananas like an ape.  I didn't try any of the Immodium so maybe there lies the problem.  I guess I will get some of that and give it a shot and hopefully this will clear itself up.  Otherwise I probably will go visit a doctor to see if it could possibly be something else. Thanks again! Everyone

I love that song what an honor that must be.  Your father being a part of that song that is way cool!  How small the world really is, it is crazy.  Thanks for your advice! I do value each and everyone's opinion.
