Nursegirl's point is, one gets more support and specific advice on a new thread. When we read literally thousands of posts, it's easier to follow a persons story on their own thread. These old threads are very helpful, I agree, but I hope you see what we're saying. I've seen folks get lost on old threads.
Old or not.. these things are still helpful to ppl in current detox!
Just fyi..this thread is very old.
Yep - - starting a new sub dose with any other opiate in your system causes quite uncomfortable precipitated withdrawals. Give it 16-24 hours before you initiate........
Don't be afraid of starting the Sub. You need to stop taking any opiates approximately 18 hours before taking your first dose of Sub, or be in moderate withdrawals. If you are not in at least moderate withdrawals when taking your first dose, you can go into precipitated withdrawals, which is miserable. Your doctor will know if you're in enough withdrawals to start (you will too). It's nothing to be afraid of. After an hour or so of taking your Sub, you're gonna feel amazingly well.
Congrats on making this decision to get your life back.
Suboxone really saved my life. Like you, I tried many times and ways to stop but could not. If you take suboxone too early, it will throw you into precipitated withdrawal which you really do not want (really severe withdrawal). I hope you have a good doctor. Your suboxone experience really depends on how good your doctor is. Make sure you read up on suboxone. Do as much research as you can. I am currently taking suboxone. It is allowing me time to get my life back. I have been working out and trying to get healthy physically. I also am working on the mental aspect of my addiction with NA/AA meetings and a suboxone support group. I struggle with chronic pain and have found that a low dose of suboxone really helps me with the pain (everyone is different). I have been weaning off since last Aug very slowly and am considering staying at a very low dose for awhile. But this is my plan. You will see that everyone has an opinion on suboxone but only you and your doctor can individualize your plan. Just remember that suboxone is to be used as a tool while you work toward your recovery. Your body will become dependent on it so you will need to wean off of it. But you will end your addiction and get your life back. I found that it took about a week to find my correct dose when I first started.
I too have children and a husband so I really know what you are going through. You can do this. My husband tells me so often that he is so thankful he has his wife back. If you ever want to ask me a question, I will be happy to let you know my experience with suboxone which has been a positive one. Best wishes.
Im a successful suboxone story, i was on it 13 months, follow the dr orders, sub has a blocker in it that if you have opites in your system it will not work, you must be in fullw/d before it works. How much sub are you going to be taking. And Good Luck
