I have a therapist as well it is the best fit for me .i have been in some gorps i the past and I just didn't get what I need to out of it .Give it a try I am hoping its just as good fit for you.
Thanks - when you say therapist, is he/she a social worker or psychiatrist etc?
My therapist is also an LSW which is a social worker. They are licensed to do therapy. They can specialize in all sorts of mental health issues. Mine just happens to deal with family counselling as well as addictions. I think a social worker will be fine! :)
By the way, Happy Halloween to you too!!!
Thanks - I am very relieved to hear this. As I mentioned I have a hard time telling other people about my problems etc. so this is going to take some getting used to. Have a great weekend!
P.S. are you on suboxone as well or just doing the follow up after getting clean, if i may ask?
I always had the best luck with a psychotherapist. They are trained to do 'talk' therapy...they do not prescribe meds. A psychiatrist can prescribe but isn't really trained to do 'talk' therapy. I've never heard of a social worker trained to do any kind of therapy....my mom had her degree and was a social worker. I'm not sure a scocial worker can do much more than listen and report that you are doing well...or not. I could be wrong.
Oh! Nevermind....I see that a scocial worker can do counseling. :-)
You'll do fine hun. My social worker is very good at asking the right questions to bring it out of me. I was amazed at how much I shared on my first visit. I've been clean a little over 50 days and I just started seeing him this past Wednesday. I think it'll be positive. I know it will help me stay clean!!!
Also, I saw him about 20 years ago for some other issues. I think he was surprised to see me again!!! This time for different reasons, but I know I'm in good hands! When you meet your therapist, you'll be able to tell if it's a right fit or not. Most of the time, they are very good at making the fit work.
