Smoking and tonsilectomy

I would like to know how long you have to wait until having a cigarette after a tonsilectomy.  I need a real answer not one that says never cause its bad for you....but a real answer...like the real length of time....i was told by my doctor 24 hrs but i am not to sure if thats true.

Speaking of substance abuse.......quitting c/t on cigs works too. :-)

+I am not sure on the the length of time, but could you try the patch or lozenges or the gum? Would any of those help you. Snowbunny is correct, you will need to wait till your throat heals up before you smoke.

I don't know but if you don't get many answers here and you really need to know..and you don't want to listen to your doctor..then there is a smoking addiction forum here on MedHelp.

24 hours is definitley NOT true!!! I had a tonsilectomy 8 days ago and i am still in an indescribable amount of pain. I am a smoker and i could not even imagine smoking at this point. You definitly will not want a cigarette for a while anyway but i was told three weeks to be sure that my throat was healed. Im sure you could smoke after two if all of your scabs are off but if your scabs are still on your throat and you smoke you will bleed and have to go back to the hospital so you will definitley have to wait more than 24 hours!!! Sorry for the bad news but i hope this helps!
