Insomnia

Ok, so its 3 am, and i am not even sleepy. I was sure that after 3hrs of sleep last nite and keeping busy all day, I would be knocked out by like 9 or 10. Im going back to work tomorrow, and really need to get some rest. Ive taken 4 sominex, the first at 10  or so, then one every hour, thinking theyd make me sleepy like they always do. Usually 2 knocks me out within 30 minutes.

When I close my eyes and try to sleep, my heart is racing, and so are my thoughts.

Ive had so much energy all day, which is weird cuz everyone else is saying that they have none.Where is it coming from? Im happy that i felt so good all day, but now its just getting on my nerves. I wanna go to sleep! What can I do to relax? Ive got meletonin, but it never worked before. Will it work any better now that Im off the opiates? and is it safe to take behind the sominex?

Thank you both for your support. I finally fell asleep about 5am in the bathtub, woke up to cold water and got right in bed. I slept 6 good hours. I feel pretty good, for the most part. Not as energetic as yesterday, but Im gonna go float in the pool, get some sun, and hopefully thatll help. I do feel good about getting up earlier tho. I had been sleeping 10-12 hours if I could get away with it. What a waste of the days! So, if this insomnia will help me be more productive, i guess its not so bad.

    Hi there!!!!

I remember the first week for me was really tough as far as sleep goes. The fact that you have some energy during the day is such a positive sign. I think for myself when I just accepted the fact that sleep was only going to come in small patches at a time is what really helped me. I to tried excedrin pm or something like it only to feel groggy the next day. Really when I just let go of worrying about it, it worked itself out and it will for you, i promise. What I did was lay there and after 30 minutes or so I got up, put a load of laundry in, or something small like that. In the first few days I stressed over it also but just remember your brain is adjusting to not having the opiates, that is WHY you are not sleeping. It will come better and better as the days roll by, coming here and posting is great support for you and it really does get so much better. Your sleep will return and it will be GOOD sleep, really the difference will amaze you. Have a good day and you are doing GREAT!!!!!!!

You are doing great!  I have been using a meditation cd and sleeping with my ipod.  I have yet to sleep more than an hour at a time, but can usually fall back asleep fairly quickly.  Good luck back at work tomorrow and sweet dreams :)
