I can't imagine how anything that has gotten sooooo much bad press can in any way be good for you. It sounds like he only WANTS to see the rosy picture that steroids paint and ignore the bad. Just like all of us in here, we ignored the bad part of the drugs we are addicted to and just went along with the smooth feeling that drugs provide. It sounds like he might have an emotional attachment to them and not so much a physical if he goes for periods between uses.

My concern would be if when you conceived if he was on the steroids at that time. Could that cause a problem in a fetus?

I feel for you and like want2bmeagain suggested, you might try to the pregnancy forum and see what kinds of hits you get. MedHelp has pregnancy forums. Here is the link to a listing of all their forums:       http://www.medhelp.org/forums.htm      ; Sorry but you will have to copy and paste the link into your address bar or right at the top of the page is an icon that says forums, click there. The right hand column has pregnancy and it is divided into age groups.

Good luck darlin'

Good luck to you both.

I used them in high school and while in the marine corps but just for a bit. That has been over 10 years ago. Have you talked to him about the way you feel about him using? I know when I was on them I was very short tempered. Tell him his body looks fine and you are worried about his health. Let him know that you don't want steriods around when having a baby. There are plenty of supplements out there besides steriods that will help. I don't really remember any kind of withdrawal effects when I stopped using them but I wasn't on them for long. I was using dbol. Just talk to him and if he cares about your feelings at all, he will quit. Best of luck!

The facts are that they are dangerous. They can cause heart problems, impotence, liver damage, and irritation of the stomach lining. There are other problems that can occur. Hopefully you can get that through his head. It sounds like that is going to be a difficult task. Just try and talk him in to doing it for you. It sounds like you're in a tough position. I wish I could be more help.

Steroids are positively not healthy. If he tells you they are he's lying or doesn't know the full truth. I lift weights and have for a long time. I don't use steroids and never will. They do all sorts of crazy things to you and what "we don't yet know about them" is the worst. There is a lot of unknown results of steroids.

You have a serious issue and I doubt you will make any progress on this. I wish you luck but people I've know who roid are near impossible to convince they have to stop.

Addiction is a funny thing. Nobody stops until they go, "Oh man... I really have a problem. I need to stop this before something terrible happens." until a person gets to that point you won't change them. Call me harsh but you don't stand a chance.

I realize this post is not in the spirit of these forums. It's not encouraging in the least but I don't want to give you the impression that you can "talk" him into quitting. You might be able to but I'd give finding a cure for cancer better odds.

So he does it in cycles. That means he just finished something where they "test". Now he's got a break for a while where he can use them without fear of being caught. What sport or event is he in? He's shaping his usage around games/competitions/etc... stops soon enough it's not in his system and doesn't use during the contest. Then he starts up during the off-time and uses until another contest. I'm totally guessing but it sure seems like that is what he is doing.

I suppose if I were you I wouldn't try to convince him of anything. I'd talk with him and ask him the questions you are asking us. Then I'd ask him if he'd go to some classes or the library and learn more about them with you. Don't take his word for the risks. Instead say, "I know what you think about them. But I want to hear from a trained medical professional or medical resource such as a text. Will you come with me?" I'd be very clear that you are not asking him to stop you just want him to come along and learn more about them with you because you are concerned. Maybe as you each learn more about them specifically what he is using he may change his mind on his own.

You have to somehow give him enough information, in such a way that he's not defensive. He has to come to an understanding on his own and decide it's time to quit.

Good luck to you and all I can say is be very patient and do not try to control him. You will lose him if you do that. Your only hope is to educate him and let him make his own decisions.

Good Luck!

The only thing that is important isn't what we tell you about how hard it could be to convince your boyfriend.  Here is the ONLY question that matters.  Does your boyfriend love you?  Honestly he may be the most hard and dead set in his ways Roid taker in the world, but your support love and honesty will be the only thing that you need to consider when talking to him about this issue.  There is no such thing as a hopeless drug addict.  I played Professional sports for four years and played at a High Level NCAA school in college.  Tons of guys I played with were on roids.  It isn't healthy... straight up, any guy who walks through the training room knows what it can do to your body.  The only thing guys who takes steroids dont have is a cofidence and strong sense of self. and that can only come from those people that he surrounds himself with, who does he hang out with that he may have to feel better than?   Who are his parents are the good people?  Where is brothers and sisters hard on him, was he the smallest guy in his class?  Is he abnormally competitive, starting fights.  These are what you have to think about then think about how much you love him, and want to see him be the father of your children, be able to play with them with out debilitating joint pain.   Seriously every roid head that I have met in school always just ending their carrers in enourmous pain, with out exception.   Anyways I'm getting preachy but this is the only stuff that will truly help you to get through to a guy that is hiding from the world behind a body that isn't his.

steroids can be used responsibly, that being said they can also be abused.  Very few people int he public know very much about steroids and most people have been scared away by the same people who told you "Smoke some pot and youll go around raping people".  With quality gear, responsible dosing and good post cycle therapy they can be used occasionally to increase muscle mass and athletic performance.  I don't use them but being an athlete I've known plenty of people over the years who used them long term without horrible side effects.  The problem is most people don't know how or what to use and when.

Everyone in this country turns a blind eye to professional sports, what % of professional athletes use steroids at one time or another, to bounce back from injuries or increase performance?  More than you would like to know?  Are all of our pro athletes dropping dead and beating people to death?  no.

Dangers of Anabolic Steroids
Steroids are dangerous for two reasons: they are illegal, and they can damage a person's health, especially if used in large doses over time. Also, the health problems caused by steroids may not appear until years after the steroids are taken.

Although they might help build muscle, steroids can produce very serious side effects. Using steroids for a long time can negatively affect the reproductive system. In males, steroids can lead to impotence, a reduction in the amount of sperm produced in the testicles, and even reduced testicle size.

Females who use steroids may have problems with their menstrual cycles because steroids can disrupt the maturation and release of eggs from the ovaries. This disruption can cause long-term problems with fertility.

Steroids taken for an extended period of time also can cause:

stunted growth in teens (by causing bones to mature too fast and stop growing at an early age)
liver tumors
abnormal enlargement of the heart muscles
violent, aggressive behavior and mood swings
blood lipid abnormalities that contribute to heart disease
acne (or a worsening of acne)
increased breast growth in males, especially teens
irreversible stretch marks
a heightened tendency for hair loss and male-pattern baldness
muscle aches
Teen girls and women risk these additional side effects:

male-type facial and body hair growth and male-pattern baldness
deepening of the voice
enlargement of the clitoris
In addition to the health risks, kids who use steroids without prescription are breaking the law. Drug testing for all athletes has become more prevalent, and those who fail a drug test for steroids can face legal consequences, including jail time, monetary fines, exclusion from an event or team, or forfeiture of trophies or medals.

Steroids are very bad news.  If he's telling you otherwise, either he doesn't know squat or he just doesn't want to stop. Don't let him b.s. you.  Research them together so he can see where you're coming from.  If he still refuses to give them up, give him the ultimatum. They are not to be played with.  If you need help with your research, let me know.  I'll dig up all the facts for you.  Best of luck.

here's a start....

Common Street Names:
Roids, sauce, slop.

How they are taken:
Steroids are found in liquid or pill form with the drug being either injected or swallowed. Athletes and other abusers take them typically in cycles of weeks or months, rather than continuously, in patterns called cycling. Cycling involves taking multiple doses of steroids over a specific period of time, stopping for a period, and starting again. In addition, users frequently combine several different types of steroids to maximize their effectiveness while minimizing negative effects, a process known as stacking.
steroid bottle

Effects
Anabolic steroids are synthetic derivatives of the male hormone testosterone. The full name is androgenic (promoting masculine characteristics) anabolic (building) steroids (the class of drugs). These derivatives of testosterone promote the growth of skeletal muscle and increase lean body mass. Anabolic steroids were first abused nonmedically by elite athletes seeking to improve performance. Today, athletes and others use steroids to enhance performance and also to improve physical appearance. Major side effects include liver tumors, jaundice, fluid retention, severe acne and trembling. Aggression and other psychiatric side effects, including wild mood swings involving violence, may result from anabolic steroid abuse.

Risks:
Research shows that aggression and other psychiatric side effects may result from anabolic steroid abuse. Many users report feeling good about themselves while on steroids, but researchers report that steroid abuse can cause wild mood swings including manic-like symptoms leading to violent, even homicidal, episodes. Depression often is seen when the drugs are stopped and may contribute to steroid dependence. Researchers reported also that users may suffer from paranoid jealousy, extreme irritability, delusions, and impaired judgment stemming from feelings of invincibility.

ok... well, there are many views on this subject, as you can see - but not all of them are correct.  Steroids can be used correctly and safely, and the do indeed work without many side effects if administered properly. Those in the know that use these products (as i myself have done at times) in the correct way are VERY concerned about their effects on the body and often do regular blood tests to check the corresponding level of steroid in the blood, liver values to see what impact the compounds are having on the body, cholesterol values (which can get elevated) as well as blood pressure (which also increases due to water retention from the estrogen by-product of testosterone).

So what i am trying to say is that contrary to popular belief, they can be used responsibly because frankly, they work. Anabolic steroids increase muscle, some work to decrease fat, they promote strength, etc...  However, there are side effects (just like eating lots of Ben and Jerry's will also cause you to be overweight and the associated negative repercussions that entails) - such as acne, hairloss, elevated blood pressure, cholesterol, etc...

A lot of the stuff you see in the press is overhyped by people that do not know what they are talking about. There was a recent "Real Sports" with Bryant Gumbel where they highlighted that not a SINGLE scientific study gave evidence that steroids caused long-term health problems in healthy men that used them. Go look up the program on YouTube, you might be suprised.

THAT being said - the compounds your boyfriend are taking are on the advanced side (Tren especially). However, if he has been doing them for 5 years, he might just know what he is doing.  Serious altheletes are often monitored by doctors when they use steroids. Yes, people - doctors do this. It is a fact. Steroids have been in professinal sports for years, the Olympics have always had them, blah blah blah. Everybody is so shocked when it comes out about baseball players.

And to clarify things, they are cycled so that the normal testosterone values can return to normal after the "cycle" - NOT to avoid drug testing as a previous poster wrote. Time on = Time off + PCT (post cycle therapy, where natural testosterone is allowed to raise back up and estrogen supressed with anti-estrogen drugs).

Anyway, i doubt this is what you are looking for - buy maybe it will educate you. If you want your boyfriend to stop, and he does not want to then you have a whole other issue, especially in light of you wanting to get pregnant.  I personally was using testosterone when i had my daughter (i.e. when she was conceived) and had no problems with myself, or her.

Just as someone else said - you can abuse steroids just like you can abuse pills. They are no better or worse.
