Still having withdrawal after 7 days

I have been taking 5-8 loritabs/percs, whatever i could get. this was
daily for a year. I have been sober off alcohol for 7 years. Should have know I was playing with fire. 8 days ago I took one 5 loritab, ghen My "friend gave me two doses of 20 mg methadone to help with withdrawals. Then I was cold turkey. I thought this would be over. Still sick!!! Is it because I took the methadone and it can stick around longer? Been trying the Thomas recipe. Rls easing up. Still having hot cold flashes. How much longer should this be?

I tell people that I haven't drank in 27 years. That's the truth. But being sober? I'm an addict and 15 years ago I started pills and yes, blew my sobriety. First step - be honest with yourself.

Yes this forum has been a lifesaver for most of us.  Withdrawals aren't as easy to forget as a hangover but we still manage to end up back in them if we don't keep our guard up.
Hope you do stick around.

Thank you so much for your knowledge on the methadone. I was thinking that the methadone probably messed up a normal loritab detox. Oh well, still feeling better today, hopefully even better tomorrow. I heard someone say that they detoxed from heroin and pills, and the pills were harder to kick? Have you ever heard that? Thanks weaver :)

Thank you for all the support! I am hoping the memory of this discomfort doesn't leave me as easy as a hangover did for me before I got sober on alcohol. I would swear booze off when I was sick, then the minute I felt better, I would get amnesia! Lol!

Thanks Jordan, I am feeling a bit better today. I realized that the methadone would not  work or that I guy I know wouldn't still be on it for three years now. I believe that weaver explained that the methadone probably extended my w/d's. I have been using some of the remedies mentioned on the Thomas recipe. Thank you for your support. I am really glad you guys are here. :)

Hey just found your thread.  Hopefully you are feeling a little better now.
Many people have 2 trackers here.  They have 1 for alcohol and 1 for pills.  You can say you are so many clean days from alcohol and so many for pills.  I hope that makes sense lol.

I don't know much about methadone.  When I first quit I was thinking about getting on methadone to ease the withdrawals but after I did some research I decided not to because it is very addictive and have harsher withdrawals.  i know its hard right now but it will get better.  Talk to someone you trust and get someone that will help you positively get through the withdrawals. You mentiioned going to AA and I think that is a wonderful idea.  They will support you and give you hope. Good luck to you!!

Beck... how is it going? Make sure to check YouTube. Video can be a great support system. Plus this keeps your mind off things.

WD symptoms are the worst if you are simply sitting there, thinking about pills, thinking about your shakes, thinking about temptations, and trying to resist those.

IMO the WD period is one-half physical symptoms (nothing worse than a bad flu) and the worse half, a ten-day mind fc*k. In fact, if one could go to the hospital and be sedated 24/7 for ten days, the battle would be won.

There's lots of OTC (over the counter meds) that control the physical effects of WD. The key is defeating the siren song of drugs and taking back control of your mind and body.

The methadone has likely extended the detox. Those 20mg tabs are pretty strong or someone on hydros and percs. The thing is, the receptors in your brain have shriveled up, and any opiate or opioid is going to prevent the healing process from starting. As sweetness pointed out, methadone has a 60 hr half-life, so it takes 5 days to completely leave your system. It's been 8 days, so the methadone is gone and the lortab withdrawal is kicking in. Give a few more days, you'll start feeling better. The all the advice above seriously. Get those sources out of your space and surround yourself with support and recovery, this is no joke. Please stay away from the methadone, it should be used as a complete program of recover, not a get out of detox free card. It doesn't work that way. You can do it, hydrocodone leaves the body fast and the healing is already taking place. Hang in there, and keep us posted.

Methadone has a half-life of up to 60 hrs....compared to the 4-5 hrs for other drugs, that's a long freaking time. It could be the methadone, or it could just still be the w/d's from your opiate. I dont know that you had enough to make that big of an impact? But I'm sure Weaver or Gnarly will be along sometime today to let you know. Just keep hanging in there!

Beck, just throwing some support your way. No doubt the methadone thew a wrench in your detox, but don't let it way to heavy on your mind. You now know that was a band aide with a lasting sting. Right now you just need time. Keep you system as clean as possible thru nutrition, plenty of fluids, protein drinks, vitamins etc. I had a major turnaround on day 9. Stay positive as it makes all the difference in the word. Hey, congrats on your clean time from alcohol. Your going to be just fine. Keep posting for support, rooting for you.

Alcohol was NOTHING compared to this! I will never take methadone again. Maybe this guy wanted me to get hooked on that so I would have to get it from him. I appreciate you help. I will make it through. I can be done obviously, i see it on this forum.

Agree with what others said, someone gave you Methadone? Permit me to be frank... that's no friend, or you need new friends.

Go on YouTube and type in "methadone." EVERYONE will tell you that stuff is pure evil. IMO anyone saying "Here, this will help you with your WD symptoms" is the same as that friend giving you heroin to feel better.

Well, at least you had the wisdom to check in here and ask about it.

Don't forget, ditch that "friend" or go elsewhere for medical treatment.

Oh, I also agree with the other post, you need to STAY AWAY FROM ANYONE WHO MIGHT HAVE ACCESS TO MEDS! The best way to assure you stay on track is to not have any pills, and cut off the ability to get any.

Trying to get clean, knowing there's meds available (e.g., by ordering a refill) is like not feeding your dog for three days, then putting a plate of raw meat under his nose and saying "STAY!" (I just fed my dogs and one of em is a pig, wolfed down his food like he has not eaten since Sunday.)

It is a fact of life that it takes a very disciplined person to not yield to temptation. Most people cannot resist going back to pills when knowing that the pains of WD will end on taking them.

My major Issue is that I don't want to change my aa sobriety date. Do I have too since I didn't drink. Maybe can I go to n/a and start from there day 1? I am afraid my ego is getting in the way :(

Thank you so much for your replies! I am scared right now. I don't want to back to pills being the centerpiece of my life. I am kind of mad that guy gave me methadone. It helped, but prolonged agony

Don't ever take that methadone again. Those two doses you took started you all over again on WD. And that stuff is way harder to go through WD.

Everyone is different. Going cold turkey is tough and the average is 7 to 10 days before you start to feel functional on a low to moderate user of low-grade meds, like Vike. If you were taking mostly percs, that has a longer WD period. And of course, the first five days are the worst.

Also, check YouTube, there's lots of support on there. There's this one guy who is entertaining, goofy, but helpful. He has a 3 part video on handling WD.

Here's part 3, links in his info section for the other parts:

Poop. I wish I knew more about methadone to answer this. But I am SURE it has an affect on your w/d symptoms. Methadone is a pretty powerful opiate that binds to you good. I think it stays in your system awhile. Did the same mistake with Suboxone right before my surgery... Then after I had MAJOR bad withdrawals, not so much from tapering the Norco - but from having the Subs in my system too. It's getting sort of late and many folks are on the East Coast. I'm positive by tomorrow you'll have more answers :)

You can't self medicate or you'll just prolong the detox. You need to stay away from any " friends" who have meds. If you'd been completely clean you'd be feeling a bit better by now.
My suggestion - cut all sources. If you don't have meds you can't use. Next - tell your secret. If you don't you'll continue to use behind it. You need someone you can trust to support you, now and in your future recovery. Finally, get aftercare. NA meetings.
You'll know if you're ready to quit, and quit for good.
And - I had stopped drinking for 12 years when I found pills. I used for over 15 years. As of today I'm 13 months clean. I know what you're going through.
