Suboxone? Methadone?

Im wondering how to get back in control of my life, I too like many of the women in here have total legitimate reasons for taking the pills..LORTAB 10, 3 car accidents, 1 which was a head on collision really messed me up and I have deginerated disks and a insane amout of pain in my shoulder.  I cant seem to keep the pills under control and I want out, I get sick if I dont take them and I know a huge amount of the problem is mental addiction..relearning how to live without them.  If anybody has any advice I could really use it, Im a good person who in my spare time takes care of my resently widowed brother and his two children, ages 3 and 6. I also work full time and Im not looking to get high.  I just need to ween off or find out info on Suboxone or Methadone and how to even get perscribed something like that. Thank you for your time.

As a woman who was addicted to oxicontin, vicodin, percocet, then at the end of my addiction methadone, my advise I would give would be to wean yourself off of lortabs. Yes methadone does work for withdrawals, but at the end of the day, its a high price to pay for avoiding withdrawals, looking back I wish I would have just done cold turkey off oxys versus getting onto methadone. Good Luck, Penelope

Hi and welcome to the forum!! You will find a wealth of information here along with so many people who are willing to help. First I see that Lortab is your DOC, but I don't see where you say how many you are taking per day. I need to know that so I can give you more precise info on w/d's.

I would either do a taper or CT, but I personally would definately never get involved with Methadone. It's a strong opiate with a strong half life and the horror stories from people coming off of it are enough to make your hair stand on end. As for the Sub, I've heard mixed reviews on it. Apparently it does work, but you will also become addicted to it if you use it for 30 days or more.

I was taking alot of Oxycontin per day and I knew the only way I could get clean was to go CT. It was tough, but then again I was taking an extremely high dose per day. Even still everyone has a rough time with w/d's but the duration may not last as long if your intake of the Lortabs isn't too high.

You've made the first step by admitting that you are addicted and it also sounds like you're ready to come off of them. Just keep posting here because that's the one thing that gave me the strength I needed to get clean.
