just an fyi to you....I don't know what kind of doctor prescribed you clonidine but the usual dose is 0.1 mg three times a day. Are you sure you weren't given klonopin, which is a benzodiazepine, and can be given at 2mg doses? Some people have actually been prescribed 0.3 mg clonidine but never that I have ever known have they been given 2 mgs. That would drop your blood pressure way too much! Just thought I would ask. You are right, though, clonidine is a bp med.....but klonopin is not. Although, klonopin will help withdrawl symptoms; like restless arms and legs and anxiety. Clonidine does not help either of those things....it is used for the cold sweats and "crawly" skin feeling of withdrawl.

Klonidine is a blood pressure med that is used sometimes for opiate withdrawal symptoms.. usually 2mg. per day.  Personally, I used it 10 years ago when stopping hydrocodone cold turkey after hip replacement surgery, and I couldn't tell that it helped much. Depending on what your son is using, there may be better options.  Can u get an MD involved? He may need to be medically detoxed.  My heart goes out to you.  I can't imagine the pain of having a child suffer with this.  Much love.

Hi Sugarfoot and welcome! I'm sorry that you are having to deal with your sons addiction! Bless you for caring do much and wanting to help him! If you could provide us with a little more information, we can give you better advice! Do you know specifically what he is taking, and how much per day? Is he being prescribed pills by a doctor? Has he made the decision to quit? If so, will he quit cold turkey, or will he be able to taper down? Tapering down would be the easiest on his body with less intense withdrawal symptoms! You can help him with that my controlling his doses!

I don't know much about Klondine as I've never taken it! I believe it is a blood pressure medication and supposedly does help with withdrawals! Has your son been prescribed this?

Hang in there and others will be along to offer support and advice! I wish you the very best! Please take care of yourself during all of this!
