If you already have a child, I'm assuming you have access to a pediatrician?  I would contact the pediatrican and get their perspective from the unborn baby's standpoint.  As far as the OBGYN, I would dump that person real quick and find someone that will treat you AND all of your ailments.  This person is not helping you.  There are many people with drug addictions that withold that kind of information from their doctor.  Here you have a person, who is being honest about her condition, asking for help and not getting it.  This doctor's heart isn't int he right place and for that reason, I'd find another OBGYN ASAP.  Good luck!

There is a large percentage of babies born in this country premature... I was at major risk of this my entire pregnancy, after having lost a son at 22 weeks pregnant. Let me just tell you that forbid your little one would come earlier than expected. There is little to no survival rate before the 26th week and at that there is a small percentage of survival. This is without any w/ds or other complications. I urge all of you pregnant women to get off the drugs! It could mean the difference of whether or not your child makes it.

thank you!! never went through withdrawls before, do you think when i have withdrawls that my baby will feel  bad too?? if i lower my dose enough do you think that maybe i wont have withdrawsls? let me tell this, however it may not matter, but anyway, at night when i take my last dose somestimes i can go 12 hours before i take it the next morning, i just feel sore and achey , a lil like a flu symptom, does that possibly mean i may not have bad withdrawls? is it true that withdrawls begin within 6 hours of the last dose? i will try to plea w/ my doctor or find another one. how will i know if something is wrong with my baby, if he feels bad, how is he feeling inside me, are there any signs of knowing any fetal distress???  thanks!

I know you can taper off these pills. You have several good reasons. I'm in a state where they check babies for any drugs, so if that's you case, you want yourself and baby clean.

Good luck,

That is a good taper schedule, if you can stick to it. The idea behind tapering is to go down gradually and allow your body to adjust as you go. It will minimize the withdrawal in the end. Since you were on a fairly high dose, you are going to feel some withdrawal though, so remember that.

I know it is a little late, but you need a new doctor. If you went to him, told him you were pregnant and taking pain meds, he should have stepped up to help you. Geez.....

The odds are in your favor that the baby will be ok, but there is a chance with ANY pregnancy, so get the tapering done before birth. And, let your doctor know what you are doing, or have done anyway. Whether he likes it or not. that way he prepared if..and ONLY IF, there are any problems at birth. Also, it is on record that you notified him....that is important.

So, have you ever come off these pills in the past? Are you familiar with withdrawal?

Thank you so for the fast reply!! yes he is my OBGYN,sounds great doesn't he??  anyway , as of now today , i am taking 15mg every 6 hours( totaling the 60 mg every 24 hours, i thought i would try that for about 4 days and then drop it down to 45 mg daily for another 4 days, and honestly , i havent planned exactly how much, how soon to drop after that ,thats why i have came here, to see if i can find any help or info on what would be safe foe my baby, i am lost to this on knowing how to go about all this safley, i have been going with gut instinct  and prayer this far. any advice or others personal situations and outcomes would be most helpful and greatly appreciated. i wanna do this ASAP, yet, safely for my baby, i just pray it can be done and that it is not to late to try this before my son is born into this world.

Good Morning!

Glad you found your way to a new post.

The doctor that won't help you, is that your OBGYN? If so, that is very sad.

You DO need to taper slow seeing that you are pregnant. I don't know exactly what your taper schedule is, so if you let us know, someone can give you some feedback.

If you get off of them before delivery, and you do it slowly, there is minimal risk of harm to either you or the baby.

Let us know about your schedule..and your doctor.
