To Those of you Suffering the Initial Stages of Withdrawal

This is not a question, just some advice to those of who are going through the initial stages of withdrawal. I am no expert by any stretch; however, I have quit OxyContin / OxyCodone cold turkey several times only to go back to it because of how bad I felt.
This last time my typical daily dosing was around 250mg (lots). Yet this time quitting was entirely different and I attribute the reduced withdrawal affects to the following (again, I am not a Doctor, nor an expert).

Daily:

A really good Multi-Vitamin (Really good ones usually come in a daily packet with four or five pills, not just one)
Protein Shakes (Again quality is everything here, make sure the list of Amino Acid's is extensive)
6000mg of Glutamine
3000mg of Vitamin C
1x Tablet of Vitamin B Complex
1x Daily ASA (Low Dose Aspirin)
2x Omega 3-6-9 Gel Caps
Epsom Bath Salts
Imodium as required
Ativan as prescribed and only for the first few days

In addition, before bed, I tried this new product called "Happy Dreams" (Brain Pharma Product) which contains melatonin (sleep), L-Theanine (sleep), Inositol (Sleep), and a powerful blend of mood enhancers including (5HTP). I should mention that 5HTP is a precursor for Serotonin, so if you are on any type of Anti-Depressants you may want to steer clear or at least check with your Doctor first.

Last and certainly not least, exercise. I have heard this before but did not put much stock into it. It is the lifeblood of your recovery. If you are doing all/most of the above, eating as healthy as you can, your recovery will be much faster. I am on day 11 today and I have not felt this great in years. I am certainly not out of the woods yet as I MUST begin an aftercare program.

Let me be clear that this has worked wonders for me but you should always consult a Physician before something like this. I also want to stress this will have a very small bearing on my long-term sobriety. That in itself is a completely new dynamic!!

I am a little over two weeks free of all pain meds.  I was not a big abuser.  I did tramadol for arthritis 6 a day for about 2-3 yrs.  Then when I got my hip replaced I did some hydracodone for the pain.  I have not had a problem walking away from them. But now I can't sleep.  Its almost impossible.  I have some sleeping pills and do one about every other night just to get some type of sleep.  How long will this last?

all suggestions and info appreciated.

yes, I agree with everything this post says. I used most of this stuff during w/.ds(second time) and it went much better than the first time. AlsoI will add that hot baths help ALOT,stay away from the caffiene(sleeping is hard enough without adding caffaine)-get out in the sun as much as possable-the sun helps graet, force yourself to do as much as you can--the more you do the better you will feel-also the more you do the more likely you  will sleep. If you can not sleep(this was my worse w/d) take you some tyln pm--it helps great and no presciptoin is needed. Also, drink plenty of water

I have to say yes and amen to what troubleddude is suggesting.  I am 23 days from my first (AND LAST) detox off pain meds and a good plan has helped me tremendously.  I take
Multivitamin
B Complex
C
E
glutamine
l-taurine
sam-e
am eating healthy; good balance of protein and carbs (especially complex)
am working out almost daily a 30-min walk at the very least.
I believe it has helped me sooo much and the EXERCISE helped save my sanity especially in the first 2 weeks.  The anxiety was difficult and even a brisk 30-min. walked released those endorphins and helped me get through and I think it helped with sleep too.
Get medical advice about what to take and dosages.
