Tongue question

The last 2 weeks I have been having problems with my tongue.  It always burns when I brush my teeth or when I smoke (which I should quit too!!)... and there looks like little white dots on it only on one part of it though that kind of hurt.  Did anyone else have anything like this as a part of a detox symptom?  I know my body is still going through changes even after 30 days so Im just curious.  I do have a dentist appt at the end of the month and will check with him if its not better by then.  Our bodies are so weird and amazing!!!!  :)

SO I was doing the salt water rinse and of course my tongue felt better today.  I had the Dr look at it anyway and he didnt see anything wrong with it!  I told him about the detox and how others had the same experience.  He agreed that it could be that or it could be from the effexor detox!  Big help he was!!!  He didnt want to do new bloodwork cause he said it was fine when I had it done.  So no answers but Im going to ask the dentist when I go at the end of the month just to see what he says!!!

WOW  If its from the Effexor then I am in for a double whammy!!!!!  Ill be sure to let you know Amanda as soon as I find out!   Ill check with my regular Dr on Tuesday and then see what my dentist says at the end of the month!  It is a very strange thing!!!  I just read about Burnt tongue Syndrome and it didnt really provide much of an answer.  It could be a lot of things but Im thinking because so many of us have felt it after detox it may have something to do with that....but yours has been going on so long so who knows!!!!  We will see what the Dr says!!!

Oh, i also was told it could be a side effect from Effexor, but i stopped taking it over 4 mths ago.

Hey girl, your question intrigues me because i asked the same thing when i was detoxing and nobody knew the answer.
My tongue has been badly burnt and swollen since i detoxed, and almost 14 mths later, its still agonizing and hasnt gone away.
When i go to a doc about it, they keep doing thyroid tests, which come back fine.
I have anaemia and also read that this can cause a tongue to be burnt and swollen.
There is also something called Burnt Tongue Syndrome.
Either way, please let me know what your dentist sais, i will be really interested to know.
My tongue gets so bad and red that it is literally hot to touch and when it swells, i have teeth marks on the side of my tongue.
Mine is obviously not from detoxing, because i still have it over a year later, but it did start the day i detoxed.
Good luck finding out, i think your dentist is the best bet in finding out the problem over a doc, as this is generally their area of expertise : )

It sounds like you have oral thrush; a yeast infection. It requires 10-14 days of anti fungal medication. Your doctor should be able to diagnose it quickly and get you started on treatment.  All the best!

It certainly wouldn't hurt to ask what he thinks.  It's great you have the blood results from before as that gives a great baseline. And by telling him what is going on he'll know better what tests to ask for on your blood as they don't routinely order everything. He may want to do them now and again when you are more fully recovered and balanced. If it's okay with you please share the results. I find this very interesting from the science side... on the human side I just hope you feel better soon!

I did have my yearly physical in October of this year and all the heart tests and bloodwork came back normal. That was while I was still using the 10 norcos a day.  DO you think I should ask him about maybe redoing the bloodwork now that my body is still getting rid of all the opiate crap or just wait until next year?

We largely agree. Healthy bodies have natural bacteria, yeast, and other microorganisms.  Actually, our own cells only make up a small part of us. But our cells have to manage the others. Our immune systems can be impaired in this job due to drugs and also the stress of detox. That's one reason the supplements help. So we can get infections as well as just being hypersensitive.  I'm not advocating she immediately jump to antibiotics.  A saltwater rinse is natural and will help eliminate most oral infections if there is one. If there isn't. ..it will still help the symptoms.  But if it doesn't clear up then it is only smart to have a doc look at it. White dots is more than sensitivity. I'm not a doctor but I am a biologist. White dots with inflammation are usually spots of infection around colonies of bacteria, fungi/yeast, or viral. If it's a mild infection the saltwater will likely take care of it though. If it doesn't. ..well no one should be needlessly walking around with a possible streptococcal infection and suffering when they don't have to.

I also think that many cells in my body died in detox and shortly after. My tongue was bumpy with a white coating covering it. I could see my skin on the rag, as I bathed. I smelled like rotting cheese, detox cheese is what I called that smell. The symptoms of detox and flu are similar, so is the process of healing. I think your tongue is healing and replacing numb cells, programed to opiates, but that is simply my own theory. I know my nose itchy and numb when I started opiates, then it was irritated and sensitive as I quit, my tongue was numb in early use and was hyper sensitive in detox. My skin didn't flake off, due to a virus or bacteria, but the toxic effect of the drugs, which our bodies use the same mechanisms to eliminate anything, bugs or drugs. I did go to a doctor though, mostly to rest my mind, because there was nothing wrong with me, just worked over from an exhausting detox and the shock of no longer taking opiates. I'm bipolar too, but that didn't really flare up until day 120. It took a long time before I didn't feel ANY effects from opiates, but am glad I had a check up, so KNEW it was the opiates. I think most of us are a bit malnourished and weak, in active addiction, but pills made us not notice. So, I think it is important to get extra nutrition and be extra healthy early on, to help recover from opiates and the neglect of our bodies that they manifest.

Yeah, it's the detox. Smell and taste were way off. I don't think it's right yet come to think  of it. Bread stunk to me. ?? The sensitivity was very annoying.

Yeah...things can feel weird as our brains rewire....but if you have visible white spots too then it's more than a sensory thing. Most likely your immune system is a little down from the physical stress of detox and you have a bit of an infection. Might just be viral and clear up on it's own. Try a warm saltwater rinse a few times a day. If it doesn't clear up in a few days, see a doctor.

I described my most acute phase of detox as having half a brain and no skin. I mean, it hurt when the wind would blow. I couldn't swim in the mountain lakes, it felt frozen, yet everyone else was splashing away in the sun. From the top of my head, to the bottom of my feet, every cell in my entire body was affected. Then there are all of my natural operating systems and senses, not quit knowing how to react to my environment or situations. It took my brain awhile to know what signals to send, be it touch, taste, sight, smell, sound, and even my 6th sense seemed to be confused. Just keep taking good care of yourself, the body want to heal itself, so feed it good nutrients, exercise it, and don't get in it's way. You have a great start, never stop growing.

Hey you! :) Yes same here. Wasn't just my tongue though,my whole mouth didn't feel right. And food tasted different, wrong almost. So I think it's part of the detox?

Yes, the same exact thing happened to me during my detox.  Every time i brushed my teeth or ate anything it would burn and my whole tongue was very sensitive. It will clear up in time, it always felt better when I'd rinse with warm salt water. Your right, our bodies are weird & amazing all at the same time!!
