Tough Love

b58
Give me advice on my 26 year old daughter moving back home with a major addiction to pain killers - we have a very good relationship and have agreed if she can't kick it she will enter rehab in October.  While I feel this is a huge stepping stone for us - is that enough?

I have to agree with House on this.  October is 6-7 months away!   Perhaps you should allow her to move in ONLY if she gets help NOW ... a lot can happen in 6 months if she continues using.

I agree with what the others told you. Also let her know thats she isnt alone.Lots of young people beat this addiction and go on to acomplish their dreams that were so RUDELY interrepted by these horrible drugs.Thats why if she will post she will find it so helpful. There is somthing VERY powerful about people who just understand the wild emontional roller coaster ride that we, as addicts, are on.
She is very lucky to have you.

Much luck and big hugs!!!

Yes, it can be enough. Give support and love. Also, look here in the Health pages for the Thomas Recipe and the Amino Acids. Are you going to try a taper and have her stop slowly by reducing her dose or is she going to stop cold turkey? The Thomas Recipe will help lighten the withdrawals. How much is she taking? Do you know the name of the pain killer and the strength of it? If possible, have her get on this site and read and post. It is such a support system and helps a lot. Good luck. You can do this and help her and she can do this too! If you have any questions, let us know. We are all here for you both!!

Having a support system is critical.  The fact she recognized she has an issue and asked for your help is great.  I hope during the hard wds, she and you are strong enough for her to get through this.

You may want to ask her to post....

This forum really helped me ... 61 days clean.
