Need help with addiction

Hey Guys & Girls, I had been taking vicodin, percoset, oxycodone, etc. pretty much what ever I could get my hands on for the last 4 years.  I had no problems with my body I was just taking them for the obvious high.  In the last 4 years I haven't taken as many as I see some have on this site but I am none the less experiencing the same problems.  Because I could only get my hands on 15-20 pills every 3 months I would space them out only taking 2 or 3 a week.  For the first 3.5 years no big deal.  I had a few friends say you better watch it and I always told them it's no big deal some people take 10 a day.  Well wouldn't you know it I started about 4-5 months ago coming into more and more pills and then needed that feeling every day rather than 2 or 3 times a week.  So, even at it's worst I would only take 1 pill per day MAYBE sometimes 2.  When I would start to run out I would try to save them by going 2-3 days without and that's when I started noticing the problem.  Typical withdrawal symptoms.  That's when the real depression kicked in and I started to think how did it come to this.  Long story short It's been days without taking anything with exception to suboxone.  I have a friend who had a few left and had me break them into 1/4 and 1/8's to only take when I was really have major withdrawals.  My question is for people who have taken sub, is it ok to use it like that to get me through the withdrawals or am I just setting my self up for still having that high feeling every couple of days.  Thanks

Hi Larry. Welcome to the forum.. although your doses have been kept to a minimum you are a addict. the chase the planning the wd. using the sub the way you are is setting yourself up for a longer wd and a higher tolerance.. people have used it for wd but should only be done with a Dr. on a 21 day cycle this in itself takes a lot of discipline.. Sub is actually more powerful then what you have been taking.. My advice would be to bite the bullet.. stop altogether go thru the wd and they will be minimum. I understand the depression and anxiety this leads too.. Instead of running from it confront it with exercise riding your bike walking Get outside and live your life Keep busy pick up a Hobby. Believe me addiction can lead you to places you do not want to visit. You are worth the effort I hope you make it. take care lesa

Thanks for responding.  It's been 4 full days with nothing at all.  Yesterday and Today are not very good.  Mainly no energy, no sleep, and just down in the dumps depressed.  I will keep trucking through it though.  I'm hoping with the limited quantities I was taking that this only lasts a week or two.  I started lifting weights and running again so hopefully that will help also.  Thanks again for responding

Yeah you are playing with fire taking sub like that.. It's WAY more powerful than the pills you are taking and stays in your body about a week vs a day or 2 like the other short acting pills. Sub from the street from your friend is a BAD idea

Gee I wish I had a friend with extra Subox; just kidding, not really.   Anyway, I don't know how old you are and I had am in no place to give advice as I am in stillin full addiction mode but take this as a warning.  STOP ALL while you still can.  It sounds like you are borderline before the addiction sets in.  Please find healthy outlets for yourself and don' get sucked in by the "HIGH" - it will go away soon and you will need them to feel only normal as in "NOT SICK".  If I could stop one person from falling into this trap it would make me feel a little better.

No it is not okay to take them like that.  Sub needs to be prescribed by a doctor.  It comes with its own set of issues.         sara
