Methadone wd

Hi
I read something recently that kind of made me curious. So I heard that some doctors are using opiates w a shorter half life (ie morphine, etc..) to ween ppl off of methadone. Then once they are off, they start the taper off of that opiate. Has anyone heard of something like this? I know that methadone and even suboxone can be so very hard to get off bc of the half-life, how long it stays in your system. Trust me I know that ALL opiates are hard to stop but apparently the methadone wd's last a lot longer?  Don't worry, this is not something I'm actually considering! Even if this was possible I would never do it bc I'm not naive, I know that if I take anything that gives me a feeling of euphoria I will chase that indefinitely.  That's why I did very well on methadone, I never really felt "high" so to speak.

I still have a headache, but it's not as intense as it was, which is great news. They were so bad I was actually considering stopping my taper and staying where I'm at for a while. Hopefully I won't have to do that now. Mornings are rough. Everything I do feels like I'm climbing Mt. Everest, even taking a shower is hard! I haven't washed my hair in a couple days bc it hurts to hold my arms up long enough to wash & condition it ( I know, TMI!)  I just enrolled to my local gym. I'm hoping if I can force myself to go it will help with the energy levels, so I've heard anyways.
Thank you to everyone here for being so supportive. This site is amazing! I feel so much better venting to ppl who get it.

I think people have used just about every method of detox they could think of, most fail, others have mixed results for various reasons. The one thing I have seen be successful is sticking to a plan. It doesn't really matter which method one uses, as long as they stick to it. I think you have been doing methadone the least painful way. I most certainly did it wrong, I would never suggest anyone do what I did, accept I did stick with it, so it worked. That part, I definitely suggest highly, form a plan and don't question it, time off drugs and persistent aftercare is the actual healer anyway. How I got there makes no difference now. I most certainly won't get hooked again, just so I can do it the best way.

Oh and yes I forgot to answer the other question.
Yes other opiates have been used to taper from methadone.
Exactly for that reason, shorter half life.

Good morning. Awesome job signing up at the gym. Yes exercise is very important in your healing and recovery. Exercise will help to repopulate all the natural brain chemicals.
So glad your headache has eased up some. If you need to slow down your taper that is ok. Let your body adjust to each drop. It is usually best to make smaller increment drops below 20 mgs.
The magnesium/calcium/zinc tabs will help  with the muscle aches and pains.
Also take hot epsom salts baths, the magnesium alloy soak back into your muscles to heal and soothe them.
You are doing awesome.keep the faith.
Keep up the good work.
