Trouble sleeping

Well I recently quit smoking and I started to feel different but not in a good way. I went to the doctor and he said it was nicotine withdrawals (I was sceptical but hes the pro not me). So I waited it out for about a week and things got worse. I decided to go back and see a different doctor and she perscribed me paxil for anxiety and xanax .5mg to help me sleep if I need it. I have trouble sleepings but after reading about xanax im not sure if I want to start taking it. I started te paxil yesterday and took 1 xanax last night and felt great but still did not fall asleep until about 5:30am. Took the xanax around 8:30pm. As far as the anxiety goes I feel ok right now but I do want to get some sleep, but i'd rather do it without having to take xanax. Is a .5mg once a night for 20days enough to get hooked or have withdrawals after stopping? Should I try other ways to fall asleep before resorting to xanax? Im just nervours about taking pills. Thanks.

well congratulations on taking control of your life and getting healthy.i understand not wanting to be dependent on a chemical, i hate being addicted to a damn pill. im in the process of getting my life back, best wishes to you.

Thanks for the quick responses. I took some benedryl(sp?) instead. I think ill save the xanax incase I absolutely need them. Hopefully I wont. I also dont want to get addicted to the paxil. Its not that it doesnt help or I dont want to take med its because I done want to have to be dependent on any chemical that has to be induced into my body. The main reason I quit smoking is because my caousin had a heart attack at the ages of 22 an I recently turned 21 so im gonna get myself in better shape.

i found OTC maximum strength unsiom helps me fall asleep even in bad oxycontin withdraws. the liquid pills are the best. congrats on quitting smoking i know that wasnt easy

Thats not a very big dose of xanax but I wouldn't get it started because its hard to stop. Try taking benadryl that works pretty good and isnt addictive...and congrats for not smoking!!! Wish my hub would quit..good luck.. cat..=)
