ULTRAM/ULTRACET/TRAMADOL: The Truth about this 'non narcotic' please

Hey Goldie, this new thread is for you!!!

There is a great deal of confusion with respect to this drug.

Why is it, that if this a non narcotic and non addicting med., i continue to read(or hear) about, horror story after horror story getting off of it???????

Seems many would say the withdrawal from tramadol is far worse than many opiates.

A wise friend of mine even mentioned a front page article in their local newspaper(recently), siting what a great "alternative" Ultam is, in that it is "non-addicting".

Any help would be appreciated.

i was just reading  some of your comments about ultram and that is pretty much was started my addition as far as im concerned ultram is just as bad as the rest of them my dr gave me 120 tabs with 10 refills and from there  my story begins..   now he switched me to the duragesic patch which i abuse and eat them. so as far as ultram go i dont think they are any better then the rest of them, then again when your taking 12 a day what do you expect. good luck to everyone here...

Hey ya'll..Long time no see!  Actualytodayis my day 60 clean....But its still and forever more.. one day at a time.
ULTRAM IS SAME FAMILY OF DRUGS AS STADOL..WHAT I WAS ADDICTED TO FOR 10 YEARS!  It is a synthetic narcotic.  Stadol was not categorised as addictive for many years!...And stadolis 10 x'sstronger than morphine. Drugco's dont want this categorization for their new and highly advertised money makers!
Thanks...

Goldie - I know what you are saying but the addictive behavior is a powerful thing.  I feel like now I need them where before I could at least see the trees for the forest.  I want to taper.  who am I kidding, I know the first headache I'll get, I'll be taking them again.  I am seeing my doctor today but I am afraid to tell him.  He only gives me 40 or so and will wonder where I am getting the rest.  I want to tell him but I am not ready to quit.  I wonder if 'cold turkey' might be the answer now since I am just about in denial.

You have helped me and I appreciate your advice, again.  I'll let you know what I decide.
Thanks.

Oh and the Lidocain patches are not a controlled substance so ask your doc for the large ones he should not have a problem with giving you them, I put one on my back it helps numb the area a bit but it will not extend very deep more for surface nerve sensation. But I thought it might help with what you described on your stomach.
They last for 24 hour's

Dude, there is nothing like hearing wow you are a big guy you must be able to take a lot of pain. Assholes. I am 6ft 250lbs mostly muscle but have broken my back and other body parts more than once. I have had both ends of the spectrum when it comes to doctors one filled me up with IV morphine until I wanted to die from it; the others wanted me to take Naproxen. I live on the East Coast and finally found a half way decent pain doc that agreed to try and help with out Narcs. But she also made it clear I would have no problems using them when I felt extreme pain. She took the time to explain to me that unlike addict
