Valium for pain??

What the heck is this?? Some of you know I had my appendix removed. I was able to finally come home today. They had me on dilaudid in the hospital and since being home I have achy pains in my wrist and ankles as well as the surgery pains. I told them about my battle with vicodin so they sent me home with Valium. Does that make any sense what so ever? The Valium just makes me feel icky and I'm wondering it the annoying joint pain is from my brain telling me I am having withdrawals. O goodness what a mess!!

I agree - without the opiates, the benzos made me feel AWFUL.  Just the worst.... tired, lethargic, just awful..  Good for you for getting rid of them!  :)

That's just great lol. I don't drink or smoke weed or anything like that because it makes you feel like you are not in control. I am a very controlling person. I just want it to go away!!

Valium has a half life of about 6-8hours. Bless your heart. I am sorry you feel loopy. Hopefully you can sleep it off. I do know that it can cause a hangover effect the next day so dont be suprised if you are a little sluggish tomm as well. ((hugs))~Bkitty

Wow I guess Valium also makes my type like I'm drunk. I personally would never get addicted to this crap o my goodness. This is the complete opposite of my DOC. I only took 1 5mg and it says take 2 3x a day! No way, when will this feeling go away?

I dont think they will sweetie. You could be having some mild withdrawal symptoms kinda like PTSD,,your brain remembers them. LOL. Hoping you feel better in the next day or so. :( ((hugs))~Bkitty

I know when I had my tooth pulled and got prescribed Vicodin all it took was one pill to trigger the PTSD in my brain from the withdrawal. It passed quickly though.

Thanks bkitty. I am in the medical field as well and I didn't even realize what they have me until I got home. I'm taking Motrin right now but I was do confused about the Valium. I just hope the drugs from the hospital won't cause me any trouble.

I have been in the medical profession for 20years. I have never heard of Valium being used for pain management/control. The only rationale that I can think of is that Valium is a anti anxiety med and maybe they gave it to you to keep you calm when you have pain??? To keep you relaxed? As far as the joint pain,,I am not sure. I hope that you start feeling better soon. ((hugs))~Bkitty
