Does anyone know if Klonipin is a good way to help someone coming off of methadone?Or is it just like switching one drug for another. I have heard different things from different people, and one thing that scared me was that Klonipin is as hard if not harder to come off of than Methadone. I was prescribed the Klonipin but maybe I should just stay off all drugs while I am coming off of "done" so that once I am off, I am clean, and free from any drug. But I am scared about withdrawal once I get to a certain level of miligrams, and Klonipin is supposed to help. I was thinking maybe going natural or herbal. I know exercising, (sweating) helps, and lots of water, and I have heard grean tea too. Any advice or help needed. Thanks.

I use it for one day during w/d, you start eating those things and the w/d will get worse. Meaning, I get klonipin hangovers if I eat it more than one or two days. It makes me slow and groggy.

I just finished a 2 year methadone taper, from 150mg. I've been methadone free for 8 days or so now. My best advice would be to taper down from your final 5mg as slowly as you need to, and don't drop by any more than 1mg per week. The end is in sight; don't rush your taper and screw things up. Listen to your body.

As for the Klonopin, avoid it like the plague. I had a nasty benzo addiction some years ago, and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Good luck on you taper, and keep us posted on how you're doing.

I also posted for the first time the other day, and it's now on page 3 or 4 of this column. I didn't get too many responses and I was wondering how I can get it back to the front, for some more advice without having to start all over, I wrote a lot in my first question and I don't want to have to go through that again. Do people read through the past pages? I basically spilled my life story and I was hoping to get a little more comments, but when I wrote it, it was very late.

If you don't get the answers needed on this post. Start a new one on Methadone tapering or something like that. There are several here who have gone through it. They can help you with what works or not. I am not as savvy on methadone. I know someone who is on it due to broken bones not healing. Just had surgery yesterday. The Dr will be slowly tapering him off now. Sounds like you are doing the same.

Yah, I am tapering. I am on 7.5mg from 30mg. It's taken me a year to get there. Once I reach 5mg. I have a few ideas on how to get off faster but no so to where I will hurt myself. The depression, and lack of energy is what is really making me crazy. I don't have trouble sleeping though............yet. If I knew what methadone was like before I decided to take it, I would have run fast and hard the other direction. Thank you for the comment.

Methadone is a tough one. Are you tapering off of it?  I hope so. Klonopin is a benzo. Very addicting. Used in w/ds for anxiety.
